FA Vase final result

Just spent an entirely enjoyable day at Wembley. Hereford started off with an early goal from Rob Purdie in under 2 minutes and looked like they were going to dominate the game hitting the cross bar after about 10/15 minutes. However Morpeth got back into the game and their midfield pairing took control which with a man of the match performance from their 45 year old no.5 meant that they started to dominate proceedings. They got a deserved equaliser when the Hereford goalie misjudged a cross and the ball hit a Morpeth player on the chest and went over the line. Shortly afterwards from a cross from the left Morpeth somehow missed a sitter so it was 1-1 at halftime. Morpeth scored an early goal in the 2nd half and then totally dominated the game to run out 4-1 winners. I was in the Hereford section with my bruv-in-law and although disappointed no complaints from the Hereford supporters around us. In the Trophy final a pretty insipid 1st half but Halifax scored early in the 2nd half when Grimsby failed to clear properly and the ball was hit home from the edge of the penalty area. Grimsby tried their best to get back but Halifax controlled the game and thoroughly deserved their win. Grimsby were perhaps suffering from a promotion hangover. Total aggregate attendance close to 47000 with Hereford accounting for some 19000. I think Hereford will need to strengthen for life in Southern S&W.

That's the one - I'm rubbish with names and I gave my programme to some Halifax fans who had arrived at 1pm to find the programmes sold out!! The FA are now offering to send reprinted  programmes out to anyone who wants one to purchase.  Chris Swailes was the one who "chested" in the first goal for Morpeth. Anyway thoroughly good day for non league football. My sister works for Westons and had to prepare all the paperwork for Ronaldo's transportation from the Weston Farm. He wasn't on too long - just paraded up and down behind the goal at the Hereford end. Still at least it saved any bullshit.

Interesting that todays attendance of 46,781 was higher then the attendance of last weeks Women's FA cup final 32,912

Credit where it is due... a great decision and great marketing by the FA in combining the two matches and promoting it as non league day. The two non league cup finals last year had attendances of about 15,000 and 9,000, combining the two they have achieved nearly 47,000 (although the clubs making the final would have had a big influence as well).

The attendance for the Women's FA Cup Final was an increase of 2,000 on last season, so still an indication of an increase in the popularity of women's football.... do we have a women's team? Or any intention of introducing a women's team?

See my earlier post - Hereford sold about 19000 and according to some Morpeth Town fans we met at Gerrards X stn Morpeth had sold 3000. So the split was about 50/50. There were significantly more Morpeth fans stayed on than Hereford for the Trophy Final. As I said in my earlier post it was a thoroughly good day (apart from the catering prices!). It would be nice for the Rebels to make Finals day but if not perhaps next year we could get enough people interested in a party booking. Travel from Gerrards X takes 10/15 minutes to Wembley Stadium Station. There is plenty of car parking at Gerrards X which was £5 for the day and the return train fare was £8-90.

Echo that said before, excellent day for us relative locals, but not so easy for the participating team supporters, especially with a 12.15 ko. Think they need to rethink this to allow for easier travel to and from for those who live at other ends of the country, they might even get a few more to arrive earlier for the first game and leave later to take in the second game. I also agree that the food and drink prices are a rip off (we took sandwiches, which were allowed in!), especially when they ban all drinks (includes water) from being taken into the ground.

Bernie that's in case you're a terrorist but joking aside my bruv-in -law had 2 small plastic bottles with him but they let us in with the tops unscrewed. I agree with the timing aspect - the Morpeth supporters we met at had stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn Langley and were doing the same Sunday evening. They also had relatives living in Slough. All in all though a really enjoyable day.

I haven't been to any big grounds in England but I know in France you can't take bottles in and even when you buy a bottled drink inside the ground they take the cap off. I think security see it as a potential object which could be thrown at players. It sounds ridiculous but unfortunately there have been brain dead idiots in the past who have thrown filled up bottles at players.

If you want to take your own water into a stadium, take some tablets, and say you need it to take them.

It's also a good idea to take extra bottle tops so you can replace the one you give in,, so you can put it back in your bag.

According to the powers to be, a bottle makes a harder missile if it has the top on, as you have made a vacuum inside, making the plastic harder.

But, as we all know, you can still throw an "uncorked" plastic bottle just as well.

Makes you glad that we go to football at the level we do, where fan can mingle, you can stand up, you can swap sides, and you don't need to win the lottery to go to a game

Still got "ayeo Shaymen, ayeo Shaymen" ringing in my ears! A friend, who was scheduled to go to the games, then decided not to was besieged by the Hereford team and officials/supporters at his golf club. Serves him right, should have turned up at Wembley!!
