16/17 First Additions To the Squad

Sorry but I don't agree with either of you..... I think he was just as entitled to look around as the Managers would have been to release him during pre-season if they felt they had better options.

No problem with looking around but why not be honest about it?

Our managers need to build a squad and not be let down at the last minute and then have to scratch around for a last minute replacement.

Not sure how you can trust a player after whats happened.

When he met the managers at the end of the season he must have been happy with what they told him otherwise surely you'd say so? It's basically a case of having your cake and eating it. As I said I'm sure plenty of players do it but maybe they're a little more cute with it!

He's what, 20 years old? Fought his way in to the starting line up last season.

Apparently gave a commitment for this coming season, and then sees the Club sign Dunn and Gilkes from Basingstoke and people raving about them.

At this stage of his career he needs to be playing if he is going to continue to progress, and if there haven't been conversations giving him any assurances then it doesn't seem unreasonable to me if he's been looking around, and a bit of an over-reaction to release him because he has been.

I'm disappointed because over the last three seasons he is the only player I have seen at the Club that has looked to have the potential to progress to Conference level football..... if anything, personally I would have been more inclined to offer him a contract than release him.

No player would get any assurances about starting, and that includes any player that we have brought in, they all start from the same playing field, and those who earn their starting spots in pre season will start the season.

We sat down with him and told him that we wanted him for next season, and he confirmed he wanted to be with us, we said that he needed to continue improving which he agreed with.

We discussed with him when we sat down as we were aware he had taken representation, and that we hoped it would not get in the way of him being at Slough and he confirmed it wouldn't, which we took at face value.

However i then get 2 calls from fellow managers at the same level to say they have had e mails from his agent this week, which included footage that he has edited of him playing for Slough Town, we then had a conversation with him to see where his head was, and if in fact he was looking to move away, the conversation with him did not go how we had hoped, and with that in mind we felt that whilst he is a good player and promising (but no means the finished article) if his assessment is he should be playing higher then good luck to him and that we would get in a player that wants to play for Slough Town.

Yes he may go on to play higher, he may not, however that in all honesty is not our concern, our concern is what is best for Slough Town and ourselves as manager, that was therefore the decision we took.

We move on like we have many times in the past.

Whatever the rights and wrongs are with Ryan Hope edging his bets, I'm disappointed to see him leave, as I thought he was an excellent addition to the squad last season and had bags of potential to get even better.

A young man making an impetuous, probably naive decision, hardly seems 'crime of the century'.

We've all been young and made silly mistakes, haven't we?

I'm with Curtis on this, that being he was our 'young player of the season' who we know is full of energy and enthusiasm, I wouldn't have been in a rush to release him, as players like this aren't easy to come by.

However the managers have their own ideas and integrity in abundance, to do what they feel is right for the team, so you have to go with their decision, whether you like it or not.

Time will tell if it's the right one.

Pardon the pun, but just HOPE he doesn't turn up playing against us for Chesham or Hayes !

Regardless of whether Ryan Hope makes it at a higher level in the future or not, the decision to release him now IMO was the right one.

Touting an edited video of himself to other clubs via an agent IMO was not impetuous or naive it was a calculated attempt to engineer a move to another club at our expense.

Personally I'd have no problem if we came up against him next season. At 21 he's a youngish player that IMO needs to improve considerably if he wants to make it at a higher level and only time will tell if he does.

Can't see how anyone can disagree really with the decision. If we want to finish higher we need a squad who are fully committed to the team and the club

He may end up being one that got away and good luck to him but for the here and now he may have had tough task to get the game time he may want. If he not 100% happy or the managers feel he isnt focussed enough on fighting and earning a spot in team then fair enough

Spot on Mr Rebel.

Won a place in the team due to a combination of Sears's injury, Rummy leaving and James Jepson's brief tenure, got the young player of the year award, saw the quality of midfielder we're bringing in this season and probably thought it was time to strike while the iron's hot and try to get a move to a higher club.

No problem with that at all except the way he went about doing it and the only losers would have been us.

I think the main word here is Agent.  When they get their hand on you they want to make money, the only way that'll happen is with a move. this isn't the first time.

Forget his name the Asian lad that went to QPR under Bateman. Not sure where he is now.

Mo Shariff

I believe briefly he joined Bradford after leaving QPR. At one point I am fairly sure he ended back playing Sunday League. Last year or 2 been at Hemel although not sure how often he has played. Also saw his name mentioned as on loan at Kings Langley during last season I think it was

Yes that's true, although it's mad to need an agent as this level and I'm sure he/she had a major influence. This agent must either be not that good or desperate to take on players this low down and it appears they aren't that great either as its got out!

It was probably a friend calling himself or herself an Agent.

Not sure how many clubs at this level or Conference South would be willing to pay an Agent's fee.

A lot of these Managers are probably friends with or know Bakes and Unders and probably got the hump knowing that he was going behind their backs.

As far as I know he left Hemel and was just playing Sunday morning footie.

Probably needed to progress a bit slower up the ladder rather than jump up the levels he did. Hindsight and all that.
