16/17 First Additions To the Squad

Great signings so far. What is also a bonus is the strength in depth we will have in the squad and so the substitutes bench will be filled with quality, too.

I always enjoy pre-season, running the rule over who we've signed and the new faces trying to earn a place in the squad. This season looks particularly good on this front, with the number of triallists due to come to training and the good number of players we've retained.

With such a lot of potential good players around, maybe we will be able to put a few players out on loan/dual registered, if they don't make it in the main squad.

Yes HR, there's no point in pussy footing around saying mid table or a few places higher is ok, we're all ambitious and wanting the club to progress so no we shouldn't make too many excuses. Yes a differen pitch will take some games to get used to and remember we train on 3G a bit plus half the friendlies will be on this type of surface too. You can't worry too much what other clubs are doing as this happens all the time and you can't control that.

Getting the team to gel will be an obvious factor and of course staying clear of any major injuries.

Agree, we've got to be looking at top half pushing for the play-offs. Our managers and all the new players are ambitious and will be aiming for this as a minimum, that's why they have chose to sign for us.

Silly boy got caught, he's not first and won't be the last. As mentioned in the statement he would have been a squad player and maybe he wasn't happy about that (agree he wouldn't be a starter) and thought he'd have a sniff around, not sure any club would be too trusting of him now!

'Young player of the season award' to being released in less than two months???

Personally I would have thought there could have been a better solution as I think Ryan progressed well last season and if that progress continues he will be in the starting XI for a Conference side within two seasons.

Best of luck for the future Ryan, and thank you for last season.

Shame really  but if he gave his word that he was happy to be part of the squad and later reneged then the managers imo had little choice Once trust and credibility have gone  little remains  Sadly he probably would have got a fair amount of game time  We have such strength in depth now  with several more to come that the lads know they cant always play the optimum team and retain some excellent players Im sure we will see a lot of unforced substitutions and players who have been excellent in the last game not selected for the next in the coming season especially once ten or so games have been played and we know the teams who are hot and those who are not.

He's what, 20 years old? Fought his way in to the starting line up last season.

Apparently gave a commitment for this coming season, and then sees the Club sign Dunn and Gilkes from Basingstoke and people raving about them.

At this stage of his career he needs to be playing if he is going to continue to progress, and if there haven't been conversations giving him any assurances then it doesn't seem unreasonable to me if he's been looking around, and a bit of an over-reaction to release him because he has been.

I'm disappointed because over the last three seasons he is the only player I have seen at the Club that has looked to have the potential to progress to Conference level football..... if anything, personally I would have been more inclined to offer him a contract than release him.

Agree with this, though not so sure about the contract bit.

If He thought he was good enough to start (and in your eyes to play in the Conference) then he should have no fear of others coming in. I agree with Jon, say we got a settled side (with him in it) and then he decides to go. That'll upset the team.

It's about trust that's the issue here not his ability. Same in any job, if you get caught having interviews at another company by your current boss do you think he'd turn a blind eye or not be bothered? He'd certainly not trust you and although you may not be sacked it certainly dilutes any relationship you have.

If Ryan was unhappy with being a squad player he should have spoken first to the managers first instead of being underhanded and going behind their backs.

We only want players at Slough who are 100% committed, honest and trustworthy.

Unfortunately it seems that Ryan wasn't any of those.

BTW I would have thought that all the players start pre season as squad players and then have to prove in pre season that they should be in the starting eleven.
