End of season thoughts

Now the dust has settled and 2015-2016 season is over, wondered what fans positives and negatives were of this season and what hopes they wish for next season.

I'll start the ball rolling......... POSITIVES in the main for me 2015-2016 season was hugely enjoyable, even with the mixed bag of results.

We didn't look out of our depth in the Southern Premier. We were generally competitive against all opposition.

We added well to the squad ie new signings and quality loan signings.

Bakes and Unders turned around the team well, when results weren't going for them. We had a great return in the number of goals we scored. Stabilised our position in the Southern Premier.

Saved a few bob on strikers in late season.

NEGATIVES  After a relatively good pre-season we started poorly and a few of our signings failed to live up to the hype  [ although some were a great success ie Lewis Putman, Nathan Webb].

We dropped valuable points against a number of 'lesser' teams. Conceded too many goals. Failed to get a higher placing in the table. Poor results in cup games.

Struggled to score in late season !

HOPES FOR NEXT SEASON  To add quality to our ranks in terms of player acquisition. To have a couple of decent cup runs. To push on and make the Top 10 of the division. Perhaps challenge for the play offs.

To watch quality passing football on a 3g surface. To enjoy the new stadium facilities and see a rise in attendances and business sponsorship. Concede less and match or improve our scoring record.

To see a couple of youngsters come through.

To still be breathing ! lol !

Positives

Remaining in the Southern Premier

Competitive in most games

Goals scored

Negatives

Goals conceded

Number of players signed/dual reg/loaned

No cup run

Finishing 17th

Hopes for next season

Remain competitive

Be in contention for the play-offs

Have a cup run

To achieve this I think we'll need some quality additions in defence, midfield and up front. In particular a leader at the back, a midfield general and a couple of proven goal scorers to replace Ed Smith, Charlie Mpi and Scott Harris.

When one of the managers states that a similar performance next season will get him sacked, it is hard to reconcile that with comments stating we had a good season and were competitive.

And as for getting involved and helping the club, a comment from someone who has attended more B&HA games than STFC this year!

The context of the newspaper report, was we were not happy with the overall finish in terms of placing and we wanted more points (and should have got more points), however I would say we have been competitive the vast majority of the season (with exception of probably Biggleswade and Weymouth), and there have been very fine margins in a huge number of games,  however what I said to Daniel was that if we are moved into a new ground, and getting more through the gates, then if we were down where we finished this season with no improvement I would expect us to have an honest conversation with Steve come the end of the season.

As you know we are both pretty honest, and I had no qualms saying that we expect to be in a better position next season to the press as it shows mine and Jon's ambitions,  we are also very confident in our abilities as managers to push on.

However that is not to say it wont be a difficult league next year, as there are some big sides potentially in the Southern Premier.

However it will be an exciting season, and I for one cant wait, and have been flat out before and since the season finished.

Clive, no one has said we had a good season.

A mixture of good results and poor results but in the majority of games we were competitive.

Too many ups and downs for my liking... a poor start, then some great results (with a Manager of the Month award), and then a poor finish. Coupled with no cup runs it will probably be a season none of us will remember soon.

Have the foundations of a strong squad been built this season though with Hope, Webb, Hicks, Putman, Scott, Dhillon and Barney coming in, and Hollis and Fraser improving further this season, with Harris starting to show signs of recovering from a serious injury.

I really don't know.... if the four or five additions talked about are better than the above then maybe we will see a squad starting next season that can challenge for a play off place.

Pros

Achieved consolidation.

Cons

No clear improvement on last season (points or league position).
No cup runs.

Panic stations as early as September when it became clear the squad/certain players weren't good enough.

Reliance on inspired loan signings Paul Stonehouse and Declan Benjamin; our good run in October coincided with their arrival.

Poor start and finish to the season. (8 points from 10 games at both ends of the season).

Belatedly picking up on Rebel 1965 comments regarding Brighton on Holiday whilst Warren is more than capable of explaining his present situation (which he has done in a previous thread) I nevertheless feel compelled to comment. Warren moved to Brighton many years ago but continued (like a number of other people who have moved away) to support the club on the terraces. He continues to contribute to the match day programme. Family circumstance means that he now watches Brighton with his eldest boy getting to Slough games when he can. This does not preclude him from commenting as is his right and as is your right.

Wouldn't it be nice if we all could just be happy that we don't lose 6 0 every week, come August no one will be able to sing you ain't got a ground at us, that we have two lovely managers who got us promoted, a chairman that has done wonders for the club and really cares about STFC, and a new away shirt whatever the colour is.

AND never thought I'd say this but hopefully Warren will be able to make more games next season as I miss the annoying little so and so !!!

If Brighton get promoted there's a strong possibility that they won't be playing when we are, what with all of the fixture mucking about that goes on to satisfy SKY & BT, so Warren may very well have the opportunity to attend more games, finances allowing of course.

OK Clive.

Instead of just tacking a pop at people on here, why not give you views on what YOU thought were the positive AND negative points last season

Have stated it previously, but as no one on here reads posts and try's to understand what has been written, I am not going to waste any more time trying to explain.
