Merthyr away

Recommended Posts

I think it is understandable to be disappointed with finishing in 17th place, as at times our team promised us so much more but it seems harsh to be critical, as we've seen some thoroughly entertaining games and for best part a lot of effort from our lads.

Football is far from predictable and no team can assume they are going to be among the best.

Dropping a few silly points in at least three games this season has made the difference of not finishing in the top 15, which had we won, would have made our position look a lot better than where we have finished.

We also blew the chance of finishing above Chesham, which is a shame.

This season, we have gained more points than last season, which is creditable, and our team is far more resilient and harder to beat, than the team that finished last season, so there has been an improvement of sorts.

So it's certainly not all doom and gloom.

With the right signings we can certainly push on for better things in the new season.

Can't wait !

Teams that finish below the play-offs and above the relegation zone will always flatter to deceive, it goes with the territory.

Having more points and finishing further down the table adds credence to the fact that this division just gets tougher every year.

Just a small point on having more points than last season - we of course lost 4 points due to the demise of Hereford United. A like for like comparison would therefore be that effectively we gained 55 pts last year against 57 pts this year. I agree therefore that the league was perhaps a little more competitive this year but only on the margin.

Back to the plot and the match yesterday. The game was totally changed by Mark Scott being hurt and taken off , this being compounded by the ref sending Hicks off when initially he didnt even give a foul..... .......his decision was made by the Merthyr reaction, and it was actually Hicks whose thigh was covered in stud marks. Till then , it had been ok with Merthyr more dominant but a 0-0 looking likely, Scotty being in impeccable form. Some of their supporters (independently ) said he was the best keeper they had seen all season and a combination of that and our complete lack of forwards(their words) mad a goalless draw the obvious result.

So circumstances caused the loss...............MOTM clearly Mark Scott with credit to Gary Gokman for good work as sub keeper.
