I've heard that the new ground is well ahead of schedule, 3 to 4 weeks was mentioned.

Ok there's no guarantee that it will remain ahead of schedule due to unforeseen circumstances i.e. weather etc, but what could possibly need doing in the last 10 days of the build that could possibly stop matches going ahead?

I might be way off the mark but I'd have thought in the last week or so to completion date, all that should need doing is some minor bits here and there?

Most importantly it'll need to be given a safety certificate which can only be done once finished so that is what may delay things. Yes ideally you'd play your first game at home on a lovely summers day in front of a capacity crowd but if we need to play upto 2 more games at HP then that's what we have to, surely a couple more weeks can be stomached after all the years away?

Playing one or two games first might not be bad as it would let the players settle back into competitive games. The first game of this season at home to Frome both teams were very nervous and didn't want to lose there first game of the season and as a result the game finished in a real bore draw.

Ideally the first game at Arbour park will be an exciting one with the players giving everything and us fans making as much noise as possible.

What ever happens I can't wait

The team already trains on a 3g pitch at Langley academy, a pitch which I believe is from the same company providing Arbour Park but I can't be sure on that.

I think you're right ARAAS.

Also, how many local-ish teams have 3G pitches for friendlies? Obviously Hayes and Yeading do but can't think of many more.

In terms of pre season, we are in the process of finalising as we speak, will not be the most inspiring for fans, as people have alluded too we need to get used to playing on the surface, and a lot of pre season will be geared up to that.

At present we will be doing half of the pre season on grass and half on 3g over at Langley Academy.

We will play 3 games at Langley as the dimensions are exactly the same as what Arbour Park will be, however these will not be advertised as such, though anyone who wants to pop along can, but these are purely training games.

We hope to play Hendon away on their 3g also, though waiting to have that confirmed, other than that, we will open Penn and Tylers new ground on the 9th of July, play Beaconsfield on the 26th of July, we will play Fleet Town away on 30th of July, and go to Harrow on the 2nd of August.

The likely opponents on the 3g at Langley will hopefully be Godalming Town, Kingstonian and one of the local sides.

A lot of pre season will be about playing a certain type of football, and getting used to how we want to play next season.

We currently train on 3g, however this is usually in smaller areas, and will make a huge difference once we open it up to get used to playing games etc on it.

Hope that all makes sense.

Disappointing that we won't be able to drum up some new support / sponsors, by playing a couple of top drawer professional teams in the new stadium pre-season.

That is definitely a missed opportunity.

Doesn't bother me who we play in pre-season but it's not us old un's  that the new Slough need to attract !

That's an excellent point 3spirit.

Playing a friendly against the likes of Fulham, Brentford or Reading to open the new ground would have attracted a good crowd and could have been an excellent way of attracting a lot of new support.

It would be great to have a league team down to Arbour Park to play a few pre season friendlies. What I fail to understand is why the contract may be running late. if this is so, it means that SBC have no contracting negotiation skills, Finish the contract early, get extra bunce, finsih it on time get the contract price, finish it late the contractor pays the Council. case in point, paving in the high street, The finish price was higher than than the quoted price, and was very late. Bus Station quote £8M finish price £12M, opened 5 months late. new Library Quote £12M, final price about £20M despite being at the moment 5 months late

Alot of people are on holiday during the summer months for me if you get a big team to play Oct Nov would be a good time more likely to get a gate like we had for the Mansfield game.
