Chris Clapham
MONDAY 11th APRIL Development League - Millwall Under 21's 4 Barnsley Under 21's 2 - Admission £5 - Free Teamsheet - Attendance approx 100 An entertaining afternoon down at the Den where a pretty strong Millwall team with 3 players who were way over the age of 21 defeated a young Barnsley outfit. Four of the six goals were very good efforts and the tone was set after 8 minutes when Charlie Harris scored direct from a free kick in the D off the underside of the bar for the visitors. Millwall scored after 21 and 37 minutes to make it 2-1 at the break. The equaliser was after a corner was fumbled by the corner and Tony Craig converted from close range and then Carlos Edwards took aim from 30 yards with the ball squeezing just inside the bottom right corner. It was 3-1 just after the break when Fred Onyedinma made space for himself before sending a 20 yard dipper over the keeper. Barnsley soon made it 3-2 with an angled Matty Templeton shot from just outside the area off the right post. The final home goal came 5 minutes from the end after a good run by Onyedinma to the by line and his cross was blocked but only to Ashley Nadesan who netted from 8 yards. HTFCSUPPORTER
I went and watched Ashley today along with 7 others from Htfc to show our support. He did very well and was great he got a goal to finish it off. He's had a lot go on in the last couple of weeks and I think it will only get better and busier! We have had him for 4 years and it's great to see what he has achieved.
E&E Rich
Strange isn't it! I was one of the people at our club that felt we had to close our Youth and Reserve teams due to cost as we were paying Raynes Park Vale for the privilege of playing their matches there. I still say it was the right decision as it has saved us approx. £40k over 4 years, but our loss has been Horley's gain and good luck to him. It's always good to see players progressing from non-league and with the Vardy phenomenon, I think more and more league clubs will take a few more gambles on players in the lower leagues as they are relatively much cheaper to acquire. Maybe Lyndon didn't feel that Ashley was ready to make the step up, as he regularly played for our Reserves and Youth team so I am assuming he must have watched him. Either way, it will be interesting to watch his progress.
