Promotion up for grabs...

TRS

Recommended Posts

With Hartley confirming they won't be able to go up this year, suddenly the race for promotion is on again. Cambo 4 games in hand on Ashford and 10 points behind (before tonight's game), so all to play for! Is it a definite that 2nd would go up though or is it still subject to the FA messing about?

Sad for HW after having such a great season, hopefully they can keep the squad together and get the ground ready for next year.

They say lightening never strikes twice, but how must Millers and the ex Cove players be feeling at this time?

I would imagine they feel the same, why would they feel any different ?

Mind you if the rumours turn out to be true most of them could be plying their trade next season at a club very close to their home base last season ;)

Rother - little bit harsh. Firstly, you have no idea what our budget is. People assume we have one of the biggest budgets because we have very good players. But that isn't necessarily true. To just jump on that bandwagon is abit disrespectful because it implies we can't succeed without lots of money.

We have an excellent club, superbly run by lots of good people. Our facilities, despite not being 'step 4' are excellent. So perhaps the players just like playing for the club? Or perhaps they like the management? Millers finished 4th with Cove last year. Are we really suggesting he had a big budget at Cove? Rest of players were already at Hartley which Brownlie managed to keep because, again, they like him. We also have an exceptional coach (blushes).

My final point, is the logic in having good players, is because we wanted to go up. The hard work that has been put in behind the scenes is unbelievable. The club could not have done anymore to get the ground ready. The blessing is before we were ticking boxes to just pass the grading, now we can do it properly and the plans the club are submitting are very well thought out and will leave a lasting legacy at this club :)

Very good post Luke and well said. Only thing to take you up on though, you don't have the likes of Argent playing for you for peanuts and others turning down moves higher if they are not well remunerated! There is nothing wrong with that, can't deny it though. Other teams who pay a lot are not doing what you are so isn't to be ashamed of.

Well done on pretty much wrapping league up and good luck with your future plans.

Abbey Rangers and Eversley & California pass their ground grading and are eligible for promotion to CCL Premier next season.

Of course it's one of the biggest budgets - most clubs in this league don't have one!

I don't begrudge any success that comes your way and would not call into question for a second what the club and committee are doing at the club - I have zero knowledge of that. Well I did until I read the links above.

It can be clouded by positive spin from a number of angles but the fact remains that something somewhere has failed in that you are (almost certainly) going to win the league but have not got the ground ready for the next step.

That's not just down to bad luck.

But it's good to see an ambitious set up with a plan, that's for sure and I wish you good luck. Bit pissed off were going to have to play you again next season though!!

Hope it's a good game at Stag Meadow tomorrow.

  • 7 months later...

Just passing time trolling through old posts came up with this about HW ground not ready for the next level last season.

For those who know, will it be o k for promotion this season

Yes Tel the club have been working hard to get it sorted, mainly the paperwork side which as you can

Imagine is pretty gruelling! The first bits and pieces already done though, dugouts renovated, volunteers have cut away lots of the bushes behind the goal so we can put in terracing etc. Seen the plans, will look really good when it's done!
