Vs Kettering

I think we played a different formation but none of us could work it out. Be interesting to find out what it was.

Only one team was going to win this game and it could have been by more than the 1-0 which it ended.

Putman played up front but seemed angry for some reason and was lucky not to get sent off and wasn't surprising he was subbed at half time. He kicked one of their players about five yards away from the ball which thankfully the officials missed.

We never really looked like scoring and our best chance came from a free kick. Can't remember their keeper having a save to make.

More like the headless chickens formation!

0 1 shot on goal (did not see it but Ade on the radio claims there was one) = 0 goals.

Very few of those who played today should be in next seasons squad.

While it must have been frustrating if you were watching the game today in person, it's hardly the worst score ever, losing narrowly to Kettering 1-0.

Of course, there will be player changes for next season, that's natural but we still have some very good players, with which we can add to.

Results haven't gone our way of late and losing key players have dented our hopes of finishing higher but I wouldn't say it's all doom and gloom, when you look at the spirit of our side and some of the quality we have and also taking into account how we have played throughout the season.

Rebel 1965 take a leaf from your son who talks more sense.

So it did.nt happen for us today beaten by a superb strike.

Adam New for 17 looks to have a good future showed no nerves was superb winning lots of headers and tackles.

3Spirit you must not have been at the game as the score line really does flatter us a lot, could easily have been much worse and we would have no complaints.

No I went to watch Staines v Harrow Borough instead and watched two very poor sides draw a very mediocre game 1-1.

It made me feel that Slough aren't as bad as some teams playing at our level and that we mustn't be too downhearted, as we have a nucleus of a good side in the making, if fans can be patient with what we are currently playing like.

Our managers haven't turned into bad managers, regardless of the results we're getting at the moment.

Keep the faith.

Next season is going to be a big one for them and us.

It has not "happened" in the last 6 games with only 2 goals and 2 points from a possible 18 - even lowly Bideford have done better.

Yes it was a very good strike, but they had numerous chances on goal and we had one.

The positive was having Charlie back but he cannot do it all.

Agree Adam looked useful, but a lot of our team are already on their summer holidays!

Yesterdays defeat drops us to 16th the position we achieved last season and worryingly the next 2 teams snapping at our heels have 2 and 3 games in hand and even Cambridge who are 9 adrift have 5 games in hand Unless we start to achieve again we have a chance of finishing 18/19th! Things change so quickly just a few weeks ago we were close to being the highest scorers now we are 12th Lets start with Hungerford Their current high position is due largely to a purple patch earlier in the season They have lost 3 of their last 5 games and one of the games they won was the single goal victory against us Theres no reason we cant take all 3 points tomorrow imo

I thought the formation was 532 then reverted to 442 in second half.

Whilst it's a usual comment, they coped with the conditions better, the pitch was lumpy & bumpy and the wind caused problems too.

Hopefully our home advantage next season will mean others won't cope as well with our pitch.

Whilst I thought this few had good games I didnt take it to badly as the managers have said we are working towards next season and these game are really dead rubbers.

Have to say my motm was Ryan who I thought played well and put100% effort in. Nice to see charlie back up front for us!

The wind was a massive factor as well, blowing (in squalls) heavy straight down the pitch.

The Kettering fans in the first half were moaning like mad at their keeper in the first half because he couldn't keep the ball on the pitch if he kicked it high, or reach their players if kicked low.

Those same fans then mocked Billy for doing the same thing in the second half.

Out on that pitch in the warm up, it was hard to stand up at times, and most of the time it was impossible to keep the camera still.

Not saying this is an excuse, but it definitely had an impact. Especially when you have a bumpy, underlating pitch, where the bounce of the ball is going to be strange before the wind adds to the problem.

I would love to see the top premier league players play on these pitches each week and see how they cope, especially with the carpets they play on, and the way they moan about pitches like the ones "we" play on week after week

If the balls into the box were drying up, then I would be getting concerned, as that will mean the strikers couldn't even get the ball, let alone have a chance at goal.

Every team goes through phases of not scoring, even the teams at the top, it's how those teams handle themselves in those phases that will help them come out the other side, and we are still getting the chances.

OK, we didn't get the chances yesterday, but that was just one windy game.

... and before the moaners attack this, I took my rose tinted glasses off before posting this, and when I'm at matches with the camera I have to view them with a cold eye expecting outcomes, and not a Slough eye wanting outcomes, so I can ensure I capture the action and pre-empt good photos.

I just use the extra information I have, such as having been on the pitch before the match in how I determine my thoughts of the match.

As most of you use the position you stand/sit to determine yours.

You cannot fault the effort of the players, they have kept going in every game, and I honestly believe that we have become better defensively in the last half a dozen games.  Unfortunately we have not had the luck up front and even the best defences will start to creak when the ball isn't held up up front (whether or not you create chances from it).  Yesterday I was very impressed with Adam New and Guy Hollis, especially second half when we were very much up against it.  In previous seasons that kind of game would have been lost by a lot more.  We struggled in the second half to hold the ball in their half but still created a couple of decent chances late on and did well to keep Kettering out at the other end with the exception of a great finish.

Tough games to come but we should be able to pick up a few more points.  The priority this season was to stay in the league ahead of going into our new ground next season, and that is what we have done.

HR, there are more ways of getting goals than putting balls into the box.

How did our midfield perform yesterday, did they create anything worthwhile with through balls etc?

HR the conditions i thought were the same as the play off final does.nt help with one side of the ground open to the elements.

RR. If I was being honest, Kettering's midfield dealt with the conditions better than we did, and yes there are more ways of scoring than putting the ball into the box. That's not saying the players weren't trying, just that Kettering coped better in the second half than we did

You can shoot from outside the box

You can score direct from a corner

You can score direct from a free kick

A keeper could score, which I thought might happen, except the wind down the ex-tree end was really low, and down the other end was a gale.

Plus a lot of other ways.

But if you want to be pedantic, the goal is in the box, so the ball must go into the box to be a goal .... ;)
