Weymouth

C'est la vie

Recommended Posts

ReadingRebel was drawing my conclusion from not one game but the last eight opinions vary but facts are what they are but hey you may well be correct we could win all our remaining games we will all know quite soon

Irish, I'm only basing my opinion on our last five games where we have played very well without, in some of the games, getting the results that our performances have deserved.

In the 3 previous to that yes, we didn't perform as well as we should have.

I don't base my opinion on winning our remaining games just the desire and effort the lads put in trying to get results and prove to our managers that they want to be part of next years squad.

Neil and Jon after reading your tweets and listening to the interview.

I thought you both sounded downbeat you both should be encouraged with the teams recent displays and we certainly derserved more points over the last few weeks than what we have gained.

Seems like we need a fluke goal to get going and the win you and the squad deserve.

Weymouth are a top side.

Keep your spirits up.

Have to agree with you RebelDelaney that we will need a fluke goal, as although we have worked hard in the recent games the shots on goal are far too low in numbers. Having looked at the photos and tweets from yesterdays game, along with what I can recall, it looks like we only had 3-4 shots on goal. There were only a few more which were off target, but the keeper was not worked enough to force an error.

I didn't think you could fault our players effort yesterday, every player worked hard. Thought Ryan Hope deserves a mention, as the ground he covered around the field of play was excellent.

Jhai Dhillon was probably MOTM for me, though my only reservation to this, is that nearly every game he does a needless dirty tackle and gets booked for it.

Tom Williams had a great debut and looked safe and assured. He also seemed like the leader we've been lacking.

One puzzlement, why did he take a corner kick, as surely if he goes up field he should go into the penalty box for a header, rather than taking corners and being so out of position that he is never going to get back in time?

As good as Wazza and his brother Scott, were yesterday up front, we rarely troubled their keeper.

How ever hard our players worked, it always appeared that we would struggle to score, as was proven by the result .

Still, a good point gained in my book, in a game that if the players hadn't been up for it, we would have lost.

Must admit I missed seeing Tom Williams taking a corner.

It's an interesting one with wide attacking midfielders/wingers, it used to be that wingers would try to get right down to the bye line, drawing the keeper to the near post before either standing a cross up to the far post or pulling it back to somewhere between the edge of the six yard box and penalty spot.

This seems to rarely happen nowadays though and often they are actually switched over with the left footer on the right hand side and vice versa, with them cutting inside to the edge of the box and hitting curling shots toward the far post.

At present most of our balls in to the box from the wide players is happening from wide and level with the edge of the 18 yard box or further out and curling away from goal.... the feeling to me (and only my opinion) is that there is a tendency to want to get the ball in to the opponents box as frequently as possibly, rather than deliver fewer but better quality crosses in from better more advanced positions.

I think you're right Curtis. The days when wingers used to take the full back on, beat him for pace and get to the bye line to cross the ball seem to very few a far apart. It's now seems to be a case of as soon a you get the chance, sling the ball into the danger area and see what happens.

One theory is that modern day full backs are now mainly wing backs and most have a bit of pace about them which in turn makes it not so easy for wingers to get past them and cross a ball from the bye line.

I also think that a wingers role of years ago seemed soley to be to take the full back on with the intention of getting to the bye line in order to get a telling cross in. These days a wingers role tends to be more varied i.e. track back, defend at corners etc.
