Reading Rebel - you can ask yes :)

I think Scott provides a great work ethic, gives 100% every time he gets on the pitch and works hard. He will always fit hard and put in as much effort as possible.

It is also clear from the management and players that Scott is a massively well liked guy and works hard for his team mates, as skill that isn't always present in many players.

This is why I believe he deserves a spot in a squad.

In addition, for anyone that cares - I sit in the back of the stand every home game with my Dad and my son. My season ticket number is 45 and we (Dad and I) have been coming to Slough since I was 9 (1989), and for those that care my name is Simon. The opinions I give on the forum and in person and totally what I believe and are given in the most genuine way possible. I, like all of you I'm sure, want to see Slough as high as possible in whatever league we are in and when a topic comes up I will comment, agree or disagree, they kind of the point of a forum no?

I have no idea who Sloughboy is and the fact that I happen to share an opinion with someone is purely coninsidential I'm sure.

SloughFlyer, appologies for thinking you were Sloughboy.

Can I ask (again  :) ) were you at the game last night standing under a tin shed with possibly your Dad and Son?

Surely the only relevant statistic ( which I doubt if anyone has) would be how many goals Ed scored as a direct result of an assist from Scott Scott may have been on the pitch with Ed but so were 21 others

Not even sure that statistic would be enough because you can't boil everything down to simple facts and figures.

For example say for the majority of a game the opposition's number 5 has been picking up Scott. If Scott has been give him a tough time, running him ragged to the extent that fatigue creeps in and concentration goes and then 5 makes a mistake from which say Ed scored. Scott may not have had any direct contribution to the move which lead to the goal (he may even have been subbed) but he put in all the hard yards to get to that point.

It was why on the other thread I said he was underrated as I think a lot of the work he puts in can go unnoticed.

Their right back is still probably spinning :)

Really makes me laugh when some people say 'the problem with Putts is that he can't defend and tackle'

To which I always reply that he is not in the team for his defending and tackling and if he could he would be playing at a much higher level.

Having said that he put in a real shift today and showed that his covering back and defensive qualities are more than adequate.

As much as I like Lewis Putman, I find people go totally over board about his play. Yes, he has proved to be a very good left sided winger, who can deliver a great cross and on days when he's up for it, can win you a game but so could Chris Henry, Darren Wheeler and numerous wingers up and down the Non -League game.

To me he wants to stay on his left foot and hug the touchline a little too often, which defenders are now sussing out .We need him to start cutting in at times and going towards goal and getting a shot away or playing the pass.

As for tackling back, Bakes and Unders want all our players to do this. That was why our previous left wingers have been let go. It is the one aspect of their management style that I am at odds with, as I think we have a tendency to waste our attacking threat by being obsessed with tracking back.

I want my attackers to be a goal threat, not be defenders. Yes, closing down is good but we over emphasize it in many games IMO.

Just to clarify Wheeler, Henry and Dobson were not released for that reason.

I know that ! I agreed with two out the three,Jon.

'Very good left winger'   'can deliver a great cross'  'on his day's when he's up for it can win you a game'

I would agree with what you have said above 3spirit, except to add that he can also score some very good goals and unlike some of the other players you've mentioned Putts has been up for most of our games this season and is also IMO willing to put the effort and work rate in, so comparisons with Darren Wheeler etc are IMO not really valid.

Not really sure what other people are saying and going overboard about that can differ much from what's been said above.

It's EXACTLY what he said RR....

."As for tackling back, Bakes and Unders want all our players to do this. That was why our previous left wingers have been let go. "

So you didn't misread it, there was no mention of 2 out of 3.

Maybe, Bakes and Unders may be interested, as he is good at back tracking ... ha ha
