Hatchet is nowhere near good enough to lead the line of a top half or dare I say it play off chaser in this league. Underrated or not anyone who says that is deluding themselves. No chance any team in the play of mix would have him in their sides...

Makes losing Ed more disappointing but Hatchett will get a game now at least to show everyone the unrivalled faith the managers are in him!

A player that holds the ball up for other players around him to benefit from.

A player that goes in where it hurts and roughs up opposing defenders.

A player that can score goals.

I think most teams in the play-off mix would love a player like Hatchet.

Agree he is a valued member of our squad, that's my point... Our squad which is a lower midtable side. Everyone loves a hard worker and a trier, I just think we need better than a valued hard working nice lad grafter. Im sure the managers will be on to quote stats about his goals or how hard a time he gives defenders etc, he is a good player for what we are and that's a very very average team at this level. Our managers philosophy is to get rid or not sign any difficult characters unless they conform, every team needs a maverick or two that can win you a game at the drop of s hat and need handling differently, look back at the better sides around and they have them.

I stress I don't know what Ed has done so I'm not saying i would have kept him or not, my opinion is would love to see us take a risk or two and not be so rigid.

Anyway, such a shame about Eddie and wish him very well and thanks for the goals and memories.

Agree with you to a certain extent but do think you're doing a disservice to what Bakes and Unders have achieved since they have been at the club.

While I, too, love to see the maverick flair player, it needs to be balanced out with what's good for team unity and team morale.

Our managers are building a top side and that takes time to get it right. I don't agree with all of their actions on players coming in and going out of the club but I do believe they've been good for our club since their arrival here.

I do recognise, however, that they do air on the side of caution and can be rather conservative in team selection but perhaps that's because they were both defenders when they played the game !

To me, though, I'm still very happy with their management and believe next season will prove how far they've come and how far they've got to go, to get Slough chasing for the title or the play-offs.

Just surprised other local Southern/Ryman Premier clubs didn't snap him up? Maybe they know of his injury record and this may have put some off? Then again dropping down a division, scoring a few goals and having another promotion in your CV isn't a bad option I suppose.

Come off it Reading Rebel take the rose tinted specs off, no other play off side would have him regularly in side, no chance!

Also 3spirit, I wasn't saying bakes and Unders haven't achieved anything at the club, not at all! In order to push on the shackles have to come off that's my opinion!

You are entitled to your opinion, Sloughboy, some of what you say makes sense but what doesn't seem to be taken in to account is that the best players cost big money and Slough are running on prudent lines these days and the club hasn't been looking to get promoted last season and this current one.

You can tell that by the players we've acquired.

To me that's no bad thing, we've all seen non-league clubs go boom and bust financially.

IMO Scott Harris wasn't our first and second choice striker, Charlie Mpi and Ed Smith were but you need back up for injuries and absences, so to me Hatchet is a worthy back up striker but what's best about him is that he can play any number of positions in the team and doesn't seem to moan about it, so more than just an ordinary striker. I like that about him. To me that makes him an asset to the squad.

However, Sloughboy, I am in agreement with you that we will need to keep bringing in better players if we are serious about getting in the Conference South.

Think this will very much depend on what attendances we get back in Slough in the new stadium and what money we can raise through sponsorship and takings from the new facility.

He was unplayable yesterday if anyone was at the game and saw - and if you know the game and have played the game and been on the same pitch as him or played against him in training, you understand what he brings to the game.

But just my opinion.

Thanks for that, Guy. Nice to see loyalty to a team mate !  You're Captain material.

Strikers are inevitably judged on goals scored and Scott Harris has had a dry spell and scored 1 in 19 league appearances since the beginning of September. (I appreciate many of those appearances will have been as sub)

Is it just a confidence issue? A need for a run of starts? Or is the Southern Premier a level where he is going to struggle with his style of play?

I think there is no doubting that Scott Harris brings to the team with his high workfare and definitely makes himself a nuisance. Whilst goals are what strikers are judged on I wonder how many others around him would not have scored if he wasn't there

But you could argue that if you had a different striker, the other strikers may have got double to what Scott has added. It's all supposition and opinion.

The fact remains that Bakes and Unders want to play him and that is all that matters.

If the goal wasn't disallowed and we win 1-0.. The fact of the matter is Scott Harris would have got a lot of plaudits .. Even though he didn't score .. You can't deny he didn't play well, That's what's amusing ... Countless times he simply outmuscled their two 6ft4 centre backs out the way to allow the ball to run through to the other centre forward to get a chance on goal or to play the ball out wide to create a cross for someone to get on the end of.. If we score one and win he wouldn't get the criticism .. Drew Roberts is meant to be a top striker in this league supposedly .. I know who I would of rather had on that pitch yesterday.. I think a lot of people are giving hatchet a disservice in their comments .. All entitled to opinion but I think the bigger picture is overlooked .. You won't find many teams where both strikers are able to get 20/30 goals .. You will find in every striking partnership .. The one who gets the goals more often than not owes a lot of thanks to the person he is playing along side

To be fair, Hatchet has been in and out of the team, so that does hamper goal scoring.

I don't think anyone is saying that Hatchet would be a first choice striker in a play-off side.

Hatchet is a player that would get in any squad in the Southern Premier. His main attribute is not his goals but his unselfish all round play that allows other strikers to bask in the glory.

Nice to hear from Guy on here but to be fair he has played with him for a number of years and so will always be defensive of them. Agree a good striker sometimes allows others to get loads of goals, be interested to know his assist stats this season?

Regards smaller budget, I totally agree we can't bring in a Mackey at leamington or Burbidge at Poole or someone guaranteed to produce, so surely a rough diamond who can't necessarily command massive wage but needs handling a bit differently has to be looked at.... Or 2/3 youngsters briught in and worked on within the squad not in the academy.

Just my opinion
