Rebels Radio and YouTube

Recommended Posts

The commentary from the Frome match earlier today has been blocked and cant be played.

UMG_UK have claimed copyright violations on the video. UMG_UK have claimed the Beatles music being played in the background over the tannoy is breach of copyright.

I think we have already had warnings from YouTube about some of the music which can be heard over the background coming from the tannoys in the stadium. We might need to be careful as if the Rebels Radio gets 3 strikes it will be blocked completely.

Whoever picks the music to be played before matches can you please make sure you don't use any Beatles songs or we will have more problems.

You need to talk to the PRS who deal with then licensing for playing music in public places. I think they also cover music to be used in filming and radio.

I'm fairly sure we have set the account not to make money so we should be ok most of the time.

It seems that UMG_UK who seem to currently own the rights to the Beatles music have aggressively reported anyone on YouTube who have used any Beatles music. It doesn't seem like other record labels are doing so though.

One solution would be to only play non copyrighted music so we are guaranteed not to have problems but we can't control what music is played at away games like yesterday at Frome. To be honest I think as long as we don't play Beatles we will probably be ok.

Mal316 YouTube already have a deal with PRS, not quite sure what it covers.

YouTube have something called Content ID which automatically scans videos to find any copyrighted material and that is how music gets picked up and I'm not sure you can be "protected" from it.

If that's the case, that's a pity.

Can Aidan still see it on YouTube as the author (or whoever owns it), as you can download videos you own, then reload it once edited

Possible other solutions

1. Aidan to say that we are having a couple of minutes deadish time if a Beatles song comes on.

2. Go back to pre recorded messages at half time

3. Go back to dead time at half time

4. Obtain covered microphones (Not a fiscal solution, as they are quite expensive)

Only just seen this.

I have the same problem whenever I film Cup Finals, especially for certain Youth Leagues where they blare out 'Simply The Best' and 'We Are The Champions' over the P.A. during the Cup/Trophy presentations. Put that on You Tube and it gets blocked...and it's 'one strike'.

Cup Final highlights are not the same without being able to see the Captain lifting the Cup at the end !

At least with filming you get the chance to edit before it goes on, so you can alter the audio at the critical points, unlike the live one time recording of the radio.

But definitely keeps people on their toes. It must be a nightmare

Not really, because there is somebody announcing the winners on the P.A. at the same time as the crowd are cheering and the music is blaring out. You Tube still treats the music as a copyright infringement even with other noises going on.

It just doesn't look right on the highlights when you take all three (P.A./crowd/music) out and dub non-copyright music (or just silence !) on the footage instead.  ;)

The only way you can do it is by removing all sound and adding your own commentary over the footage, similar to what a youtuber called "Smiv" does. He commentates his Sunday league team and recently covered the Wealdstone vs Hayes and Yeading match.
