Thanks for the update Neil, are you continuing the policy of bringing in players only that are better than the ones we have to keep the club progressing upwards?

In terms of the summer then yes we hope to be in that position, is slightly harder at this stage of the season, with players on contract at clubs, involved in promotion push etc...

You may see a few younger players come in, to maybe have a look at between now and end of the season, or maybe one or two younger players from pro clubs.

May also be one familiar face and a player that is known locally.

We have until the 24th of this month to have players signed.

Were there four line up changes from the team that performed so well on Saturday? And none directly related to injuries or suspensions?

If so, that has got to be frustrating for the Managers.

There were two changes (Barney and Gokmen for Hollis and Smith) which were covered in my team news update earlier in this thread.

The two lads who came in did very well though.

....but yes very frustrating!

I don't think Adam Martin is playing for a club   ;)

Jon,

Two player changes, resulting in four 'line up' changes?

S. Harris for Hollis

Gokmen for W. Harris

Barney & W. Harris for Smith & S. Harris

Or have I read the team sheet wrong?

In that case you are right Mark.... frustrating as you said but not much we could have done about it. With the Guy situation, he works as an accountant up in the City and with the time of the year (end of tax year) he is ridiculously busy and is unable to take any holiday in March or April and is often working until 9, with yesterday whether he could get away was dependant on his senior boss and he would have needed to leave Waterloo at 5.20pm (and he works in Moorgate) to get to Basingstoke for 6.05pm and then we had someone to drive from Basingstoke to Frome where he would have got there at 7.15ish. however this was unable to happen, which is obviously a huge loss, as we all know how well he has been playing.

He will also not make Bideford for the same reason.

So his availability midweek in March and April is always dependant on who we end up getting and feasibility of trains etc.

Be good to have a few younger players in, as at least in the main you get enthusiasm to do well, and you never know we may discover one or two who can have a bright future for Slough.

Kettering, who are in a similar situation to us, had no qualms about bringing on a young player [ben Baker, aged 17] when playing against us in our home match and gave him a good half hour to see what he played like. He played well and looked a good prospect.

I know our first two seasons in this Premier division has been about staying in it and consolidating our position, so understandable that we've gone the more tried and trusted route but our lack of any half decent young players coming from our own Academy does seem perplexing, when I know Hayes and Yeading have been rather successful in getting players through their Academy.

Even if we could produce one or two to just to be good substitutes, then that would be a positive and not leave us as short on the number of players available for away games.

I think the moves for next season /additions to the squad should be looking at a total of a 20-22 man squad, with 16 or players of a high Southern Prem level and then some younger guys to play as required and be loaned out/duel registered at other times. Would give us a good size squad with a decent opportunity to develop players as well.

We really need to be looking at numbers regardless for next year as looking at the programme in the Dunstable game, I believe only twice this season we have managed to field 5 subs. If we want to progress and push play offs etc, we need to have an overall stronger squad.

Exactly but things aren't always as straight forward as that.

I think most fans will want to see progress in the standard of player we attract especially in our maiden season at the new ground [if all goes well] but breaking the bank to get too many costly players is surely not the way to go, if we've learned anything from our years of exile.

Taking a chance on a couple of young promising players is always good way of saving dosh and on occasion unearthing a gem.

From the published squad listing on the club website which still quotes Mpi ands Sear who is out long term, there is only just enough for 11 and a bench - no surplus.

Looks like Management will soon not only be bench warmers, but in the starting 11.

You've forgotton about Paul Coyne and Rummy who are effectively no longer with us which leaves a squad of 13.

Our managers have been actively looking to bring players in so squad numbers should increase imminently.

Are we certain to be playing in the Southern League next season or could we be moved to the Ryman League.

Could this be a factor when recruiting new pĺayers.

Interesting question RD as with the move back to Slough with any reshuffle our geographical position is borderline for the 2 leagues. Hard to say what I'd prefer as the Ryman would give a load more local games but we don't know the teams as we do in the Southern?

Rummy is with us until Tuesday when he departs for USA and he would have come on Wednesday night if needed, and will be available as an option from bench Saturday and Monday.

We have 3 seven day approaches up on Sunday night, and hope to add two or three, we are also looking at striking options now, and have enquired about a couple of loan players, but to no avail as I speak, though sometimes these can take a few days.

We will also be dual signing a few players to boost our numbers.

Good to see [from Twitter feed today] that we have signed a couple of youngsters from our Academy on first team forms.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained in my book, with only ten games to go and being relegation safe, it is the right time to see what is on offer from the young players we are training especially now Burnham are about to embark on this type of system and Beaconsfield SYCOB have been thoroughly successful with their model.
