2016 Sponsored Walk

Recommended Posts

It's one of the many days where I'm so proud to be part of this club.

Thanks to those to helped to organise the walk, to the 20 who braved the dodgy weather to walk 14miles or 8miles across our historical route, to those who supported us on the route (particularly Dave Carpenter and Gary House), and to those who have donated so far and those who put money into the flag and bucket collections that have added £148 to the total, and to Sainsburys Slough for the free hot cross bun and cup of tea.

Despite the showers it was a nice distance to walk with some decent breaks.

We'll get all the money together and announce the total money raised sometime next season.

As one of the walkers ( older element as per Dave Carpenter ) It was great to take part- although I found muscles I did not know I had and am only just recovering!! I was also one of the generation that spent most Sundays at Wexham Park with people such as Alan Harding, Ollie Haywood, Dave Carpenter, Steve Banester and Chris Sliski for a few years building the terracing and pathways around the ground and then helping to manage the clubhouse etc. It was always my hope that we could have returned to Wexham Park but that was not to be. The Important thing is that we will have a home back in Slough now.

WE have a fantastic opportunity to make the people of Slough proud of the football club and we must try to make the club as inclusive as we can get as many new faces involved in the club that we can.

The managers are doing their bit and it is now up to us as supporters to do our bit not only for the next few years but for generations to come.

Good post Al and I trust the old muscles have recovered! You are of course one of a number of supporters who have over the years moved away but still get to matches on a regular basis. With the current location it has been difficult for some potential supporters to get to matches and particularly the younger ones. Let us hope that this situation can be reversed.

Enjoyed the walk, got to talk en route with a lot of people I knew by sight and of course to those I meet week in week out at games. Excellent cause and I suppose to some extent we are all mad Neil, but that madness comes from supporting the Rebels all these years through some very tough times. Support of charities as a result of this traditional end of season walk is something to be proud of and something I hope will continue.

Up the Rebels!

I was invited to speak to the Supporters Direct podcast tonight about all things STST including the walk.

You can find it here (9:10 in) https://audioboom.com/boos/4465047-supporters-direct-weekly-18th-april-2016

It may also appear in the weekly unofficial Southern League podcast.
