v Kettering

Recommended Posts

Beaten by the better team tonight.

Kettering boosted by their two quality signings from Corby were good value for the win and played some great high tempo, passing football especially in the first half. They gave most of our defence a torrid time especially poor old Sean Fraser, who had his work well and truly cut out trying to keep Wilson Carvalho quiet.

Have to admire the way Kettering took the game to Slough straight from the off and how they proceeded to use three players to attack with. We looked under the cosh from the start and apart from the storming Guy Hollis, my Man of the Match, we would have been even further behind, had he not been up for it.

Bit unlucky that they got a third goal, when we had gotten back in the game with Nathan Webb's goal, as Kettering rocked slightly when Slough got that goal back.

Had Lee Barney not missed that sitter, which in effect blew our chance of an equaliser, things may have been different.

Ed Smith was very tame tonight and deserved to be subbed. Thought Lee deserved to stay on, as he worked hard enough and never gave up, which Ed seemed to do.

When Ed wants it, he's one of our best players, but tonight he struggled to have any affect.

Not that the forwards had loads of service to feed on, as Kettering dominated possession for best part.

What with the disallowed goals? Nothing seemed to go right.

A match to forget in a hurry, for Slough fans.

First the positives, I thought we had as many and arguably the better chances than Kettering, Warren Harris had a good game and for me was our best player by a long way and Lee Barney gave us the effort and commitment required from a forward despite not really getting the service his efforts deserved.

Although most players were off their game it has to be said we cannot continue making so many defensive mistakes and expect to get something from a game. We got away with it against Paulton but the same defensive errors have cost us tonight.

Agree with a lot you say 3spirit except your choice of MOTM because apart from Sean Fraser having a game to forget, I thought we looked very vulnerable to any ball played down the middle of our defence.

I don't think Ed Smith gave up, I just think he was completely off his game and it just wasn't his night.

Very disappointing performance as has been said above, can't really add much than has already been said.

Only thing for me, surely talk of play offs was a nonsense and I don't see why it was even briefly talked about or mentioned! In light of that, we have to give Gokmen a run in the team, the lad is not going to get any better by sitting on the bnch and if anything we are harming him improving by not giving him minutes, now that we have nothing to play for, surely he should get 10 games for everyone to see if he is up to it, he deserves that. I think the same can be said of Hope, Rummy great a player as he is, is always back and forth the states and I personally don't think he has looked the same player this time around, (still pretty good but not as effective as last time) and regardless of that, he is leaving again soon, we owe it to Hope to have a good look at him, he is always appearing so positive on Twitter and again we are doing him no favours not playing him for a sustained period, I know he has played a bit life recently, I can't see why we are bothering with Rummy right now at this stage, we know what he can/can't do, so let's look to the future?

You may all disagree with what I'm saying but I'm being constructive and I hope that the managers are gong to do this anyway, it seems obvious to me.

I think any mention off the play-offs has mainly been newspaper talk.

Gurkan does get minutes at other clubs but certainly agree that at some stage this season he deserves a to get a run in the team. Now Rummy is injured perhaps he might get his chance.

If nothing else this league has proved that you need a good defence week in and week out.

Or to survive in this league you need a good attack to bale out the defence.

Currently we have scored more goals than last season but we have marginally conceded more.

I don't know but possibly down to not having a settled squad in the early months of the season?

Kettering played better than us, defended better than us, passed better than us, were faster than us and always seemed to know where each other were. All 50/50 balls immediately became 60/40 in their favour and this was especially true in midfield.

If we are to progress next season, there are several positions where more talented players will be required and it is of course up to the club if they will budget for this, as otherwise we will continue to be a mid table side at best.

MOTM.......agree with the choice of Nathan , mainly for the goal as no other player really stood out from the rest.

Agree that some of the bench lads need to be tried now..............and why was Jake not bought on to change things in the last half hour.

Of course we will all still be there on Saturday.................

Theory not supported by fact   with 34 played we conceded 27 in the first 17 games  and 36 in the second 17 games

There is a case to say as individuals scott sean guy hicks jai stoney have played well during the season but as a unit they have not been strong enough not enough communication between them.

But also defending starts with the forwards and works through the team.

Irish did not see your post as we both have mentioned defending starts with the front 2 and worķs through the team.

With concern to budget, in the central league we had one of the bigger budgets so was easier to get better players to challenge for promotion but in the southern premiers we will have one of the smallest budgets. Remember unlike other clubs we don't get bar takings plus we have to pay rent to Beaconsfield which isn't cheap and dents our budget considerably.

The most striking ĺesson from the game was how we kept giving the ball away in the vital areas so cheaply this has been a big probĺem all season so putting the defence under pressure for a high percentage of the game

It will be great when we get the 3G pitch so we actually have a flat surface to play on. I reckon we will see a big improvement in our play as we will actually be able to get a reliable run of the ball to make passes and run with the ball.

And dont you think our opponents will get an equal benefit from the new 3G pitch?
