Sun Sports stories

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am currently trying to compile a book about the history of Sun Sports FC and I wondered if anyone had any stories, incidents, humorous or otherwise about the club or any of it's players.

If you have something you think would be useful please email me on davemason68@gmail..com

I once played against Sun Sports under 15s for Chorleywood under 15s....we were winning 2-1 and dominating. The Sun Sports keeper who i went to school with at the time, started swinging on the wooden crossbar....it snapped and the game had to be abandoned due to no replacement being available...which was a joke as we could clearly see a replacement behind where the small goals/nets are still stored today. That team certainly played "the game" and beat us in the replay, they certainly knew how to take advantage of a situation. Never really thought much of Sun Postal after that. We actually played that game on the main pitch and when i watched wgc v sun postal recently, not much has changed...clubhouse has improved, pitch is still fairly big. But i was glad to see wgc win on a cold night. Nice clubhouse though.

Not sure the above is going to be something you want to highlight, but it was near on 20 years ago. Chorleywood Red U15 v Sun Postal U15....i remember the managers son played CB, good defender, liked a tear up. Always a good game between us. Very close.

I'm sure that Rendon will have a look later and will give me a few stories!!

Well I hope so anyway!!

Absolutely any story is brilliant, whether it was from 2016 or 1976.

Got most of the usual stuff already sorted...but thought that a few stories and stuff like that would give it a bit more of a personal feel...as well as help bump up the pages!!!

Cracking idea Dave, that'll be fantastic. I'll have a little word round and think this evening, I hope you'll leave the stories of the away game to Brache Sparta in the 02/03 season though. Or the 03/04 st mary's cup clash with Hemel. Not such good times.

A few cracking stories in more recent times though, one inparticular the signing of goalkeeper Jason Lloyd (son of West Indies cricket legend Sir Clive Lloyd) would be good to add. Affers will know the full details of that tail. Or to go back as far as our Ron Kelly in the 1970s and his famous clashes against goalkeeper Percy Hansard. Don't think many of the lads will remember them.

Or the away league tie to WGC in the early noughtys when Keeper Andrew Felton forgot his contact lenses and had a mare , sons manager Dean Renphreys came on and scored a late equaliser to save his blushes. Kev will definitely remember that one.
