v Bedworth

Bedworths first goal was poor defending from us but they did one thing we couldn't and that is put a decent cross into the box.

The second goal was not particularly bad defender, rather, some very good play by Archer (9) who did excellently to control the ball with his chest and then hold off Hollis who was doing his best to get the ball back and pressure him.

We will need to up our game when we play Dorchester next.

None of our players played really badly, but none played well.

We failed to use the wind in the first half - something which has happened a few times this season in windy conditions - Weymouth and another game at cesspit park.

Credit to Bedworth for coming back after our goal, but we have scored and then immediately conceded too many times this season.

I have to agree with Neil's comments that "Got what we deserved nothing!! Few lads need to realise they can't just turn it on when they want!" - have things become too comfortable as we near the position that we will avoid relegation, but wont get near the play offs?

On paper we should have got the 3 points from the leagues worst defensive team, but they got their first away win of the season - says it all!

Moan over.

I don't think we played particularly bad just thought Bedworth were quite effective in what they done. They pressed us everytime we had the ball and their no 9 was a decent player who we couldn't quite get to grips with. Everyone knows there is no easy game in this league but let's be honest these are the games we want to be getting 3 points from.

The blustery weather made the game scrappy but first half I thought we had the better of possession but our service to our forwards was woeful.

There was little in the way of creativity. Paul Stonehouse's cracking shot was the high spot of a particular dreary half from a Slough perspective.

Thought we would go on and win the game when Charlie Mpi scored his well taken goal but to concede Bedworth's first so early, with piss poor defending was ludicrous.

Once they had got the equalizer Bedworth's tails went up and looked hungrier than Slough to win the game.

The second proved to be the winner and I went home with the hump, after they scored, to watch the rugby, thinking that Slough were unlikely to find a way back to get anything from the game and so it proved.

What an embarassing scoreline but these things happen but certainly not good enough, in terms of team effort if we are serious about getting in the top half of the table.

To get creativity you need creative players.

IMO Nathan Webb and Rummy are predominantly defensive/holding midfielders who will win their individual midfield battles but i don't think they are the type of players who will create chances and opening for our forwards on a regular basis.

There was nothing wrong with the team we selected yesterday. It should of been good enough to get a winning result against Bedworth.

The weather was always going to affect free flowing football but we struggled to string simple ground passes together.

For me I thought Bakes and Unders got the substitutions spot on, as Putts and Webby had relatively quiet games and failed to impose themselves on the game. Also Lee Barney rarely got the ball, so Smithy was always going to come on, just a question of when.

'Little in the way of creativity' and 'the service to our forwards was woeful' and 'Lee Barney rarely got the ball'

In the main it's down to our midfield to feed the forwards and create those chances for players like Lee Barney to feed off.

Nathan Webb had an off day and for as good as Rummy was our creativity was pretty non existant on the day.

I spotted Ed Smith limping so I think we've got to cross our fingers that he hasn't picked up another injury.

The reporter from Bedworth was sat with us in the press box and was amazed when Putman was subbed off saying he was our best player and was causing them the most problems.

The reporter watched a different game to me !

We know Lewis Putman has been one of our best players this season but on Saturday by his usual standards had a quiet ineffective game.

The difference would be that we see him every time he plays, so know exactly how well he can play, where-as the Bedworth reporter will have only seen him in September, so he wouldn't know if he was playing at his best or not.

Still a very good thing, if he thought he was playing well, when you thought he was having an off day, shows how good he is

We come back again to consistency of performances..... if we were consistent the likelihood is we would pick up regular wins against the lower teams in our league, and struggle to get points against the higher placed clubs.

Our last two matches are a clear indication of the inconsistency, along with only achieving 7 points from 5 matches against clubs in the relegation zone (4 of those 5 being home matches), and defeats against Frome, Burnham and Potters Bar in cup competitions.

Although one of the main ingredients for consistency is playing games on a regular basis, which the weather has made very hard.

Not making excuses, just saying.

Let's hope Saturday's game at Dorchester is on, especially after Friday's forecast of another heavy storm, so we can start to get some of that good play consistency

Ed Smith recurring injuries is a worry especially with Charlie Mpi leaving soon. On his day, Ed Smith is the most talented striker we have but these injury absences are no good for him or the team. With the way it's going I think we may seek an alternative, if things don't improve.

With creativity, Bakes and Unders seem to favour the wingers to provide this and let the centre midfield play a high tempo/hustle and bustle sort of approach but they must have been a bit disappointed with Nathan Webb's  overall game on the day, as he failed to make any significant headway into the oppositions half, which for most of his games this season he has been good at.

There was little pass and move from him in the game.

The weather and Bedworth did limited a lot of our play but the essence of why we lost the match was really down to key players thinking Bedworth were going to be a pushover and thus not putting in sufficient effort to battle it out with a hardworking, desperate Bedworth side plus making elementary mistakes in defence which cost us two goals.

He's not turned into a bad player because of having an off day but on the other hand he isn't the answer for every game we play. Hence why he was subbed.

Its Monday now and I am still very, very disappointed with Saturdays result. 2 moments we switch off and they score. We looked a completely different side to the one that beat Hitchin. I know the weather was awful but it was the same for them.

I have put it down to one thing and one thing only;

WE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH

That is hard to admit but I am a paying supporter and have been for a few years now, I am entitled to say whatever the hell I like. With our current crop of players, we are a bottom half side and that is a simple fact. Good teams are consistent and they don't lose 6 points to a team that will be playing Division 1 football next year. I keep hearing the saying 'on our day we can beat anyone'. Well guess what?! On their day, in this league, anyone can beat anyone! Only the top 5 teams rarely have off days and that is why they are there.

I think Neil and Jon are the right men to take this club to the 'next level' if you like. They just need to get rid of some of the dead wood. I know a few of the players have come over with them and both parties have shown some loyalty but that should only go so far. The 'old friends' act needs to stop now.

Anyway, back to Saturday and the reason for this rant in the first place. I think team selection was spot on, although 2 of the second half substitutions had me scratching my head in amazement. Why on earth was Puts taken off? Was he injured? If he wasn't, this is bizarre. Bringing on a left back also, were we trying to keep the score down? Hope for Webb? Really? Ryan Hope is a young lad with potential to an extent. He is not good enough to be playing centre midfield for Slough Town right now. I just don't see what the managers do in him.

What really annoyed me was how deflated we looked when they equalised. This totally destroyed our confidence. When they went 2-1 up I think they held out with relative ease. Very smart, going down every 2 minutes. Taking an age with throw ins and goal kicks. We need to learn how to cope/change the way we play when this happens.

I wont be at the next game, but then again I'm not sure which one of the 2 Slough teams are going to turn up either.

A very negative post, I know. It had to be done, things need to change!

UP THE REBELS

Disagree,   Out of the 15 man squad Saturday only 2 came with Neil and Jon from Godalming, so no old pails act.
