lovely stuff
Seems like we have denied hundreds of home supporters the chance of watching their team ( on what is going to be a lovely day).In order to save Kingstonian travelling if there was a possibility of it being called off later in the day. Website states that 3/4 of the pitch is underwater??.I see wednesdays u21 game was called off for the same reason? A bit worrying.
Father Jack
It had, to be fair, been raining solidly all night. Don't think anyone's at fault for this one
lovely stuff
Could come back to bite us ,if we lose points at the end of the season due to fixture congestion ..I'm off out to to top up my tan.You don't get days like this too often in January. andyetfc
LS. What did expect the club to do given that it rained heavily on Friday night and the pitch was waterlogged? If the pitch is unfit to play on then it's unfit. Simple.
lovely stuff
It was unfit to play at 10am,but with perfect drying weather predicted for the rest of the day.I feel the decision was premature. Hampton could have easily called off their mid-week game with us (under worse conditions),but instead called for volunteers to help fork the pitch.I'm sure we could have got the game played if we had really wanted to.Although i understand that playing it safe and calling it off early saved kingstonian from having to set off for the game. It just seems that games are called off far too easliy nowadays, compared to 15-20 years ago..Can't ever remember a game being called off on a dry sunny match-day in the past. AnfieldTowner
One of those where, from the club's perspective, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Very frustrating though as we didn't seem to have an excessive amount of rain in Enfield this week, it did rain for most of the morning today but our Ladies team managed to get their 1pm kick off at home on today. Not too many other games off yesterday, though I accept there were a few. As one of those who went to the original game at Hampton that was called off late on, and consequently didn't go this week as there were no assurances given that the game would be on, I understand the difficulties. I hope we can get some early indication from Burgess Hill this week - particularly as I'll need to book train tickets that are usually cheaper in advance! Enfield United
Hampton desperately called for volunteers as their pitch is notoriously vulnerable to rainfall therefore because it was a cup tie, another postponement and we could have demanded a switch in fixture aka North Greenford Utd. Anyway I praise the early decision makers knowing the difficulties which exist on the pitch. Game on Sunday was played because it was a different day and a small army of forkers were called upon to help.
lovely stuff
Glad the ladies could muster a small army of forkers.(Good plan ladies) .So at least we know that the decision to call off the kingstonion game off was not to save the pitch from cutting up!..As the Ladies section were allowed to play on it the very next day! Don't mean to keep going on about this subject,as it history now.I seem to be the only dissenting voice who finds the goings on regarding the pitch situation over the weekend as less than ideal. Enfield United
LS- if the ball wouldn't bounce or roll naturally on Saturday then it's a no brainer. However come Sunday it was fine. The Friday/Saturday rain was very heavy for a few hours, Sunday morning was a drizzle. That's the only logic I can put behind this weekends 'drama' Anyway making Kingstonian travel to us midweek in the commuter rush hour across middx M25/A406 is not to be knocked either.
