non league fan
Hoddesdon Town Football Club's bid to install improvements essential for its promotion hopes has succeeded. The club's plans for a new stand, pay booth and fence attracted 47 objections, citing the impact on surrounding roads and neighbouring Barclay Park.Officers had recommended the plans be refused planning permission, but u-turned at this evening's (Tuesday January 26) meeting after the club explained the improvements at Lowfield are necessary for promotion.Peter Worth of the Hoddesdon Society argued the fence would be "visually intrusive" to residents of Park View.He added: "The ground is now too small for the aspirations of the club."However, Councillor Malcolm Aitken, who witnessed the Lilywhites' finest hour, winning the FA vase at Wembley in 1975, said: "This council should be supporting grass roots football."Councillor Tim Hutchings criticised the FA for imposing the requirements."I can't believe we have to move the fence by inches, the FA have to look at themselves."He added: "There is an issue with match day parking, that is up to us as a borough to do more to police it."That road is packed every day of the week, come what may."Councillors voted to grant planning permission.via - Hertfordshire mercury
