Slough Town 7-1 Epsom & Ewell

I do still have one or two lingering doubts about Fossie although probably not as hardline as Alcove. I agree that at times he does flap but I'm not expecting a goal to be scored from every corner as I did with Blakey or Dom in goal. I also breathe a little sigh of relief when he clears the ball properly as once or twice there have been costly mis-clearances.

That said I rate him as a good shot stopper and has kept us in matches in defiance of the leaky defence he has sometimes found in front of him

I feel like sturring up the tension between the two Matts but I don't really know how. BUT I'LL TRY! Although Fossie does catch a number of crosses, he also drops or misses a large number. Unfortunately for keepers people will always remember the drops rather than the catches and this is true at any level of the game. I can see where both of you are coming from but although I was very impressed at the beginning of the year, I am now not overly confident of Fossie in goal when a cross is coming in. However, he is a fantastic shot stopper, and as Gary says his saves Croydon Athletic and the double save at Croydon were fantastic. If his catching could become more consistent then I don't think there's much question he would be in the top three keepers in this league.

I just can't remember any time where Foster has dropped the ball from a cross. Ok, i haven't been to every match, but I don't believe that he has made thoase apparent "blunders" just in games that i haven't been to.

I can't believe that you lot can doubt him at all, he is an excellent shot stopper and catcher, OK, he has made a few mistakes, but dosen't everyone? You can't go artound blaming all of our muck-ups on Foster, we have the weakest defence in years and out forwards are inconsistant, so you don't you have a go at them?

Can't put Blake above Fossie - I still haven't forgiven him for gifting Hemel their last minute equaliser last year by inexplicably dropping the ball. I'd also question anyone who judged Blakey on our performance at Hampton. The only save he had to make was a simple tip over from one of his own defenders. My mum could have kept a clean sheet against us that day.

Our defence is maybe the weakest link, granted, but we've had injuries (Gyoury, and Daly still isn't near 100%), and it's not as bad as it could be. Mind you, a lot of the opposition in this league hasn't tested them fully.

As for the forwards being inconsistent, then I can kind of see where you're coming from. But at the moment you can't exactly say Hodgey is inconsistent can you? And Boot and Miller (eventually) WILL provide goals.

As for 'having a go' at various parts of the team, I don't think that's necessary. Our poor performances this season haven't been down to individuals in my opinion, it's been a team effort (or lack of). What's needed though, is some new blood in the team to provide cover.

Well as the old saying goes, 'You win as a team, and you lose as a team'.

We support the team, and we've been doing a much better job of it this season especially in the last two games, and lo and behold, we've hit fourteen goals. Mind you, should we struggle in any of our next three games, that's when we need to really get behind them, so let's give them a bigger cheer and encouragement when they need it most. It's easy to do it when we're playing well and winning, let's do it for a longer duration.

We won 7-1 who gives a toss if Fossie let his concentration slip for a second. I think he is quality. He is confident, good shot stopper, excellent on crosses and often sweeps up at the back (yes I know he has been caught out). We are playing in the seventh level of English football and he is without doubt the best keeper we have had since the conference and I think he would have pushed Wilko.

I do. I know we won with ease and that we won with a 6 gaol cushion but they didn't deserve to score! They were pants and also letting in such a sloppy goal as that made it even worse.

Is this Saturdays game or for the last month? when will he lose concentration again? When were drawing 1-1 at the end of season in 7th place?

"when will he lose concentration again? When were drawing 1-1 at the end of season in 7th place?" .....or drop a simple cross when we're leading 2-1 away at Hemel in the most important game of the season like Blakey did?

With all due respect to the Club and the other players individualy, if Foster caught every cross or wasn't prone to the occasional (and it is only very occasional) error, then he would be playing in the Conference or higher and not wearing a Sough Town shirt playing in Rymans Division One. Let's be thankful that we have a keeper that for the vast majority of times is the best at this level by some distance.

Good point boss, only keeper in squad.

Alcove, I don't think it matters that he lost concentration against Epsom. Yes, in the future it may be more important but let's hope that does not happen. I trust him for the "big" games.

Quote from Eddie in the Observer on Fossie's performance agaisnt Epsom

But we look quite solid at the back now. That was especially so with goalkeeper Alan Foster.

“It’s not just the saves he has to make but the other things like the talking and the way he sweeps up behind us. That was his BEST game for us this season.”
