Winter break ???

I have been looking back at fixtures in the last 10 years and how many games we play on average each month.

Month - Average games - (least/most)

August - 4.6 - (4/6)

September - 5.7 - (5/8)

October - 7.2 - (5/9)

November - 6 - (3/8)

December - 4.7 - (3/6)

January - 5 - (2/7)

February - 4.2 - (2/7)

March - 7.1 - (5/9)

April (+May) - 7.1 - (3/11)

Total Season - 51.6 - (45/58)

A lot of people have talked about having a winter break in either January of February but the data from previous 10 years show that the average of games played in either January of February isn't particularly lower than other months so probably wouldn't be beneficial to have a winter break.

or just throwing it out there, do what rugby league did a few years back and move your season to March - Nov for Non League football.  Might get bigger crowds as not competing with premier league clubs, infact those fans may come to some games!  You wont have as many postponements and therefor cashflow issues like are landlords are currently having wont happen either!

Within the last 4 weeks Slough had a training match postponed at Langley Academy as their 3g pitch was waterlogged

As Horsham Rebel stated adequate drainage is essential. In a recent thread I noted the hypothetical situation whereby a 3g pitch was located adjacent to an overflowing river. In equity  a 3g pitch will clearly be less susceptible to inclemental conditions; that is not to say however that the occasional difficulty will not occur.

One problem with trying to get every team in the league to have a 3G pitch is that they are very expensive and although it is possible to get grant money to help, currently the grant budget isn't that big. There are far too many teams at our level who are financially unstable so giving them a grant is risky as the club could go bankrupt before the pitch is installed or it has paid for itself.

The other problem is most teams from our league and the one below are small towns and you couldn't always be sure that there would be enough demand from the community to use it to make the money back from installing the pitch.

Around last Nov/Dec Frome decided against getting a 3G pitch after spending £4000 on a study to decide if it would be a good investment.

This was because if promotion was on the cards they would get turned down going into a higher league

But i did see during January the National lower leagues voted in favour of all clubs
