Irishadrian
In an attempt to tempt some new faces to Top Field who may become repeat attendees Hitchin Town had a pay what you want day on the turnstiles Some were sceptical that it would make any difference others thought it would be best to wait for a more attractive opponent than Frome The gate was announced as 572 Might we do something similar on an early game at the new ground? Irishadrian
The only negative for Hitchin was that they lost 2-1 to Frome Both teams had a man dismissed and Hitchin missed a penalty.

I'm sure Hitchin have done this before and as it proved successful they've done it again.
Karen Browne
In an attempt to tempt some new faces to Top Field who may become repeat attendees Hitchin Town had a pay what you want day on the turnstiles It was also done to raise money for floodlights fund http://affordablefootball.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/hitchin-town-fc.html
Irishadrian
Thanks for that Karen I was told they were hoping that regulars would pay their usual amount and hopefully a little extra and the cash from newcomers however much would help with the floodlight fund. Irishadrian
According to the Hitchin site after they had deducted the projected income from the total income on the day there was a surplus of £1500 So a very successful exercise .The game with Frome last season attracted 220 This game got almost 600. Bernie Gogan
Went to see Maidenhead v Havant & Waterlooville yesterday and was surprised to find the entrance fees were £2 & £1 respectively, not 'pay what you want' but nevertheless an excellent gesture. I wonder how well they did over normal match days considering the attendance was 707 yesterday compared to the normal 350 - 450. It's also notable that they've pegged prices at £10 & £6 (same as us) in a league where the norm is £12. Not sure if they will hold for next season though, especially if budgetry constraints have limited their promotion prospects this season. Interesting that the current relegation candidates are Havant, Basingstoke & St. Albans, at least 2 of which could be bound for our league next season (if we don't get swapped!). GlenSTFC
Though the attendance was nearly double what they usually get they would have taken a massive hit in revenue. But these promo games are obviously designed to get those who came yesterday to then pay full price at future games.
