The Gravesend friendly

However, over our two league games against you last season, we triumphed 2-1 on aggregate.

The reason Gravesend want to play Canvey is because there is a part of them which is saying “did the best team go up”. There were excuses why Gravesend beat Canvey in the first match. However, when the teams played each other at Gravesend, both teams were prepared and the classier team won. I believe Gravesend want to try to bury the ghost, but this will never happen as the Canvey team will probably have a very different look to it so no comparisons can be made.

Now, now guys. It's only a pre-season friendly and the result matters not a jot. Good to see that the banter is on a more genteel waste water extraction level. Also good to see that the head cases are not posting.

As I look up to the lofty heights at which your teams operate, I wonder what you would make of life (hopefully) in the murky depths of the Essex Senior League?

Up the Borough, can't go any lower!

Regards to all.

So what was the excuse when we beat you. Had a long journey home had you?

Why not just accept that you were beaten by the better team on the night, and dump this no one is better than us attitude and perhaps you might get someone to like a touch more next season.

Why all these 'we're going to beat you' comments?

It really doesnt get us anywhere. I agree with Helmuth that we were beaten by a better side at home, just like they were. Both teams were entertaining to watch last season, and I look forward to watching some more 'sexy football' from Canvey next season' (sorry Merv, pinched that from you!)

From past experience Glen and Jeff will be fielding quite a few new players out there, some we will see again, others we shant, just like all the friendlies we will be playing.

Is there a chance both fans could enjoy the game at the same time as congratulating G&N on their promotion?

I am fairly surprised that they want to play us again. What is it about that place they must like seeing their team get beat. Well that will give them something to tell their school mates when they cry into their milk in their break, whilst inventing something very childish and written in poor english to post on the Canvey fc discussion board. Also why have we not got any big teams this year does anyone know.

True what everybody (or NEARLY everybody) says - it's a friendly. Both sides will field a lot of new players, do a lot of chopping and changing, feel their way around new colleagues (oo-er missus). The result will be insignificant to management of both sides. It's all about getting to know how the new boys are shaping.

Good comments from Dave GNFC as per normal; predictably the usual mindless blather from the gravesend boys - still it's good to know they are allowed to play with electrical goods outside school as well as in their milk break. Didn't know you could link to the net on a Sinclair Spectrum.

Helmuth. - Interesting. Looks who’s getting all defensive now. Really, if you feel that comments posted on here could make the NLP site then that’s sounds a little bit too intense for me. The excuse we had was we had a very hard game against Burnley. The players legs had gone in the last 10-15 minutes and they were all in walking off the pitch. To have the Gravesend fixture so soon after Burnley game was a mistake. And what’s all this no one is better than us attitude. From what I could see, Gravesend are a fast running, hard working team who give little away at the back and create a lot of chances. They should do well in the conf. All I was stating was that in the second game, you could see that Canvey’s football through their passing and build-ups were better. Again, I just don’t know where this no one better than us attitude has come from. Perhaps, receiving all the attention in the national press and having our game on Match of the Day has brought a little jealousy in from other clubs., and is something they would crave.

It's almost as though he wants us to remain in the Ryman League just to face you again next season...

The friendly should be interesting, but as others have said, let's not take it too seriously.

I think I speak for the majority of Fleet fans when I say that we don't hate Canvey - we just wanted our fine club to go up ahead of them, and now that we are relieved to have achieved that, we should put an end to the petty rivalries.

I will be quite looking forward to the friendly with 'Fleet.

I just hope the pre-season action in this game on the pitch isn't like that of the ESC Final at Victoria Road last season!!!

I had the unfortunate job of reporting that game for the website!!!

what you talking about matt.. that was a game played in a frdly manner with both teams using it as gentle exercise to warm up for the forthcoming season.. er, oh no,, hang on a sec it was a brawl... still the fans got on well tho, especially when it came down to the penalties

Well jc that is a very good point. As i think it will be a good chance to give our new signings a test. It will also give your lot a nice warm up for conference life. But im not going to hide the fact that i want a win for Canvey. But the game itself should make some interesting viewing.
