FF News
Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division side Ramsbottom United had cause to celebrate on Saturday, as their game away to Halesowen Town saw the 250th appearance in goal for club captain Grant Shenton. The popular keeper joined the Rams from FC United of Manchester, in 2010, and in his five seasons at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium he has seen the east Lancashire club twice gain promotion, initially from the North West Counties League as champions, and then as play-off winners of Evo-Stik Division One North in 2013. He remains the only player left from the side that gained so much success, after the management team and the majority of the players de-camped to Salford City at the beginning of 2015. Not surprisingly, “Shents” claimed both the Supporters “Player of the Year”and the Players’ “Player of the Year” awards in May, as he remains with the club into a sixth season, with the sole intention of helping the new-look squad escape the clutches of the Premier League’s bottom four. In over five years at Ramsbottom United, he has missed only a handful of games as he is quite rightly judged to be one of the best keepers at this level of non-league football.
