Loan players returning

One is still on going as such, the other two were both turned down by the players for different reasons.

We will only be looking for a left back however as a priority (depending on conversations later this week with Oxford City), we are more than happy with the options we have in midfield, as Nathan is also back in full training tonight, thus giving us Rummy (who came on and looked excellent the other night), Ryan Hope, Searsy and Nathan.

Nope we will be sticking with 3 forwards, as it is very difficult to keep 4 happy (plus in the need we can get someone in on loan), plus we have the option also of playing 4 5 1 / 4 3 3 with Puts and Warren as the wide forward players.

Obviously we will see where Eddie is and decide what we need to do upfront, as he picked up another injury playing for Hartley and did not play for them Tuesday.

According to Eddie on twitter it's only a minor injury?

With Struts due to go back next week will Eddie be ready to come back into the squad?

With Paul Stonehouse seemingly definitely going back to Oxford City after Tuesdays game at Chippenham, I certainly hope we can get the left back situation sorted before our next game.

Not sure why the left back we're interested in is so undecided whether to sign for us or not, is it purely down to the travelling involved?

I was trying to think of the last left back we've had that comes anywhere near Paul Stonehouse and the only one I can think of is Paul Hardyman from the Conference days.

IMO Alan Pluckrose was the best left back I've seen at Slough, through the years. He could play as a centre half, too.

For me, a fit Mark Hill would run him close. I also liked Micky Engwell.

Can see what you mean RR, with Paul Stonehouse 's similarity to Paul Hardyman. Though comparing someone after a few games is a bit false, I think.

The problem when mentioning good full backs in general, is that some are better defensively than offensively, where some fit better as wing backs and some tend to be better creatively than in the art of defending.

There's no doubt that Paul Stonehouse would be a quality acquisition to the Slough team currently. I think all three loan players would be, especially when fully fit ! As you can plainly see he/them are a step above from most of what we've got [not wishing to be derogatory to any of the current players].

Comparing  with others, from different divisional levels is no easy feat, and sometimes it's more about what we need brought to the team, that matters.

Take Paul Stonehouse and Jhai Dhillon both have proved to good players for Slough but both are different in their play.

What if we signed both of them for our squad ! Who wouldn't be happy with that ?!

Obviously the best full backs are the ones who can do both, defend when needed and do a wing backs job when needed. The vast majority of full backs we've had over recent years have been better going forward than defending.

On the comparison bit I thought we'd miss Declan today but with Rummy coming in IMO we didn't miss Declan.

With Paul Stonehouse you're right because he's come from a higher level and as I said before he's undoubtedly the best left back we've had since the conference days.

With Charlie Strutton, he's fitted in really well but I wouldn't say he's a step above Charlie, Hatchet, Putts or Ed Smith.

A fully fit Charlie Strutton would fit in many sides in the level above or even two levels above, as he has proved. He has been out injured for, at least 8 months, and has only just started playing again.

He's scored three goals in 6 games [or is it 4 in 6?] for Slough, so I think you are underestimating how good he

is, Reading Rebel. A goal every two games, when not fully fit !, speaks volumes to me about him as a striker.

To me, he's getting better with every game and knows how to score. He is direct, strong, shields the ball well, can turn a defender and is instinctive in front of goal.

I would love to see him play regularly for Slough but I would imagine he will probably go on loan to a higher club than Slough next, before returning to Braintree.

Don't know for definite, just guessing.

On second thoughts 3spirit you're probably right.

Charlie has yet to get back to full fitness following a bad injury.

My comment was purely based on what I have seen since he's been with us.

I am going to do a hotspur here and say two classy full backs from the Tommy Lawrence era and ex England Amatuer International players.

Ray Eaton and Tim turl.

Tim played as a striker and turned into a class defender.

Never forget him scoring two goals in the first twenty minutes in the second leg of FA Trophy semi Final against Dagenham as a defender at wexham park.

The Daggers led 2 nil from the first leg after his 2nd they went and scored 4 winning over two legs 6-2.

I will also add Micky Bell from the Bob gibbs era.

Good call with Tim Turl + he had the hight, but I'd go with Vic Akers.

But recently I'd go with an on form Ryan Parsons.
