E&E Rich
A little late but here is the match report from our defeat to Dorking Wanderers on Tuesday. http://www.eefconline.co.uk/Fix2015.16-21.html They were very warm and would have probably beaten our full strength side, but clearly with an eye on Saturday's match at Ashford our Manager (quite rightly) didn't take any risks with some of our borderline injured players. I used to really love the Surrey Senior Cup. When I first started supporting Epsom we were the holders of the competition but the open draw is a massive mistake that has led to a lot of the bigger teams putting in "development" squads for the matches and lower ranked teams winning the competition. I should point out that to their credit, Dorking Wanderers put out a strong side . I'm sure the idea was that smaller teams would have the opportunity of some revenue from being paired against a larger team but it just doesn't work like that as those teams supporters see it as an unimportant competition. Whilst I accept that you can't move these things to Saturdays any more, bringing back an exemption system for at least the biggest 8 (or even 12 clubs, as used to happen) to reach the last 16 would make the competition a little more relevant again. Yes, clubs of our level would have to play qualifiers instead but we had an attendance of 41 on Tuesday which doesn't even cover the officials' costs so the open draw is not working. For potential winners drawn in the first round they would have to play six matches to win the competition. With the big guns entering in the January / February, many of whom may be out of other competitions by then, they may take the competition more seriously. I'm also a fan of our own League Cup starting in the new year also (as it used to do in the old SSL days) but I've covered that elsewhere.
