v Redditch

I can only go by rebels radio and twitter but it sounds like we put up a very good effort against a Redditch team that should be competing in the play-offs at the end of the season.

Would it be fair to say that on the night we just lacked a cutting edge up front and didn't quite get to grips with Redditch in the midfield area?

Were Adrian Sear and Charlie Strutton carrying knocks, hence why they were subs?

Sounds like we were unlucky not to get a draw on the night. I would have been happy with a draw. No disgrace losing narrowly to a very good Redditch side. Last month we would probably have been tonked by them,so progress in my eyes is being made.

Now for 3 points against Cambridge on Saturday !

Our opinion of the game was as follows, they started like a steam train and for the first 15 minutes we were under the cosh, however good defending and a couple of missed chances from them kept it at 0-0, they have one of the best midfielders in this league in Jamey Osbourne, and it is no surprise to know he has a number of league clubs looking at him. We then started to grow in confidence and work our way into the game, we had a number of times where we ended up going close, without having any sitters.

Second half started in a similar vein with nothing between the two teams, and both sides defending well, they then had a great strike from distance that Scottie made a great save from for a corner.

They then scored from a wonderful whipped ball into the box from the corner that their lad just got on the end of, and it managed to find its way past Stoney on the line.... they then had a 5 minute spell, with the rest of the game being us camped in their box, and them coming at us on the break....

Our workrate was excellent, and a fair scoreline was a draw if I am honest, and I think most of them would agree.

We had a very good shout for a penalty with 10 to go, with the ref admitting it hit the lads arm, but saying it was accidental, my opinion where his hands was, it was a penalty.

Charlie and Hopey both went close, and Hicksy had a header cleared off the line.

I would not say that we lacked in front of goal, I would just say they are very well organised and limited us to very few good chances, the same could be said for us as they rarely opened us up at ease, which has happened in the past.

All in all disappointed to lose, but players were in good spirits after the game, as they knew they had put in a shift against a very good team (who were a lot better than when they played at our place) and the general consensus was if we play like that more often than not, we will have a very good season.

Just so people were aware Searsy was taken sick on the coach up to Redditch, and did not feel 100% to play, hence why the midfield was changed.

SRJ, I forgot that one ! and I was at the game ! ha ha !

So from a 2-0 loss at home, we've progressed to a close run 1-0 defeat away from home on a tricky Monday night.

Bearing in mind that we were also thrashed by them in both games last season.

The way Redditch played last they were by far and away the best side we've faced this season. To come away disappointed with a narrow single goal defeat, considering how well they played, shows how far we've come in a short space of time.

I have no issue with them losing last night and the players shouldn't have either, other than the disappointment we all felt. If we play like that all season we'll win more than we lose.

Thanks Ian for the positive words which were exactly the words that were said in the changing room last night.

We hate losing, and when you travel all that way and put that hard work in and get no reward it's tough to take but there were so many positives to take from the performance. In particular the two centre backs were absolutely superb and that partnership is getting better with every game they play together.

We have made huge strides in the past 3 weeks and there is a real belief in the changing room that we will continue to improve and get back on a winning run quickly which is now what we are fully focused on.
