Chesham - league cup

Recommended Posts

As others have said, another excellent performance from the team. Would have been very difficult to pick out the players that haven't played the last few games, and I suspect those players that haven't been in the 3 winning league teams had a point to prove, and thy all dud that.

Justin Clayton was excellent after the first 5 minutes where I'm sure he was a little nervous. All 3 goals were taken well and we looked like a team with quality top to bottom and major confidence. Just need to keep it going moving forwards to Saturday.

I agree that it was a very good debut for Clayton, he's a big lad that won just about everything in the air, and also directed the defence well and tackled well. I was concerned when he picked up a yellow in the first five minutes, but it didn't seem to affect him, and he never looked like getting a second yellow.

It surprised me to see Hope central and Martin on the left, but it worked well. The best performance so far from Hope.... he played with a lot of energy and was very competitive and combative for the full 90 minutes.

Also an excellent goal from Gurkan, a combination of being pacey and brave.... I have sometimes wondered why he has been kept in the squad, but that moment alone was glimpse of his qualities.

A thoroughly workmanlike performance with moments of real quality....as has been said some of the squad boys played in a way that gives the managers a nice selection dilemma for the weekend when three more points will make such a difference.

MOTM for me was Scott Harris for his first half performance in particular with Ryan Hope a close second for his second half play.

And the Oxford lads continue to put in strong performances and the only worrying note at present is how we replace them next month

As i mentioned too previously I'm worried when the loanees return will our form suffer? Not sure how many new players may still be arriving, I would think we'd have an answer by now for the left back but problem is you're not going to drop Stonehouse are you and this new signing might not be happy sitting on the bench.

I will answer this, as I feel that we have Eddie Smith as a direct replacement for Strutts when he returns to Braintree, thus giving us Eddie, Charlie and Hatchett up top (3 very good options)

We have plenty of midfield options now (Rummy's international clearance is being granted today so will be available Saturday), and will be more than covered in there when Declan returns.

Obviously the left back is where we will need to do something if/when Stoney returns to Oxford City, however we have a number of possible options here in the pipeline, and at present are not worried in the slightest.

Whilst the loanees have come in and done great, they are not the only reason we are winning games, by having them come in initially it changed the mindset of the players, and all of a sudden we have managed to get 4 wins on the bounce which breeds confidence, with players believing in themselves.

Dan Hicks has come in and done excellent, with him and Guy are striking up a good partnership, this has also been key, however we now have Justin Clayton who will join us permanently, thrown into the mix after a very good debut last night.

Chesham made very few changes to their team last night, we made 5, yet if we had beaten them by 4 or 5 goals last night I don't think they could have complained.

Certainly agree that the quality of players we have on loan has instilled a lot more confidence in the players.

I think replacing a player like Declan will be almost an impossible task, especially as Rummy is only here for a short time.

I do like the bit about 'if/when Stoney returns to Oxford city'. Surely no chance of him staying if only for a few more months?

Didcot page just says MKDons had a big number of first team players on the field scored 7 goals in each half.

Just a pity we did not get 3 points for last nights win.

We were looking at exactly what you said Neil in that with Smith and Rumbold coming in that is more than quality cover for Strutton and Benjamin, the left back is the real stand out issue potentially when Stonehouse returns.

With the above the only slight issue I see is with Eddie and his fitness. With Putman playing and do g extremely well on the left, if Eddie ' s fitness doesn't hold up, that only leaves us with Charlie Mpi and Scott Harris upfront. Even with Eddie fit, is there any plans to bring in a "4th" striker?

Ed Smith scored two goals for Hartley Witney last night.

Hopefully the start of Ed's road to recovery.
