New ground

Starting with the school pitch first then our 3G, love the terrace with 250 seats on line sounds like they're not sure or maybe they just don't know anything about football grounds! So I'm guessing we might see ground/pitch work start end of this/start of next month. So am I right in thinking it'll be a 3 sided ground to start (2 covered end terraces and 250 covered seats backing onto the sports hall which will act as a temporary clubhouse? Then another year to build the main stand complex?

Any contract susceptible to inclement conditions should have an allowance for this built into the programme float time. Many years ago a job for which I was Resident Engineer lost a considerable amount of time due to a very severe winter. The contractor claimed all the time lost as an extension to the contact period. I recommended that whilst an extension be given it be considerably reduced based on the expected inclement conditions determined by local meteorlogical records for the previous 30 years. This approach was accepted and agreement made. I would hope that such allowance has been made although forecasts for an exceptional El Nino this winter may come into play. Meanwhile perhaps it would be useful if there was a pause in the conjecture appearing on this thread.

Yes 15o at 6-15 on a Tuesday a 1/3 of the way through November. To cold to start must wait until it gets to at least 100o

Thanks for the ill informed sarcasm. Obviously it's not temperature based. But anyone that's been involved in any groundwork knows that if the ground is soaking wet. It's a lot harder/longer more expensive.

Just so you don't feel left out of things........

Very little has been done so far at the Meadowbank pitch in Dorking to date.  This being under the control of the local council with an interest of the Surrey F.A. who wish to move their headquaters there next season with the new 3G pitch fully operational.

Regarding "ill informed sarcasm" the point I was making was that reasonable allowance should have been made in the programme for time lost to inclement conditions. Clearly turf laying can be affected by wet ground conditions and there are current predictions that we could be in for a wet and windy winter. With regard to cold weather working the overall affect of this will be of course depend on the construction - I am not conversant with the detailed design but precast  elements would provide some mitigation. Hot concrete/cloche techniques are also available etc.

Turf laying is the correct solution. The ideal time for turf laying is mid autumn to late winter. So as previously discussed there is a risk of wet weather delays but this would be considered in the float in programme duration as I have previously noted. The risk is an overly wet winter period and Mr El Nino may have a say in this. I'm off to bed now.

Apologies my sarcasm comment was aimed at post above yours. Why is why it was quoted by myself. Sniping on this forum is beginning to irritate me.

No problem. I appreciate that everyone is anxious to see the ground development going forward. I don't normally comment too much on the forum but in this case I felt some comment would be useful. As I said there is no guarantee in all this if there is an excessively wet winter - programming can only be based on reasonably expected normal conditions (see my first post). I was surprised that someone clearly seemed to not realise or understand that the school sports field would be constructed by turfing - everyone is of course entitled to express their opinions but it is useful if those opinions are based on fact rather than conjecture.

COYR.
