New ground

The success of the midweek Micky Mouse cup games has been surprising. You get a lot of young lads, I'd say 15-25, who you don't really see at the weekend games. Is it just the money, or are they off watching League teams at the weekend?

Both the Sports courts and the academy are way behind on their completion date and would guess the ground is the same. Until the academy is finished we won't have an idea of the delay but with 3 month delay on the school I can't see us playing in a completed facility until next season.

Adrian, I might be being a bit thick here but what is the link with Arbour Park being completed and the Lynch Hill Academy being completed?

The one link is the reciprocal parking arrangements as per the respective planning consents. However I agree that in terms of the phase 2 completion of the stadium there is no necessary link. Presumably once the phase 2 stand is complete there would be no hinderance to it being opened unless there is an insistence that the reciprocal car parking arrangements are in place i.e the Academy construction is also complete.

Another possible issue is the completion of the cark park final surfacing which depending on contractural arrangements may be planned in with the Lynch Hill final surfacing works. However these have to be done at some stage and even if the school side of things were not to be ready the front of stand and and back of north and south stands surfacings could be completed independently with suitable jointing at the interfacing. On the other hand if the surfacing is jointly let as one contract then presumably (as per contractural arrangements above) there would be an arrangement for one establishment/visit. Having to get up in t'early morning to visit t'loo is nuisance!

Its lovely to be having a discussion on when the icing on the cake will be ready.

All the more pertinent as we have to visit our old 'home' on 27th because of Hayes problem with their ground

As we approach Christmas and head into a new year it's always time for a bit of reflection in our lives. It's not been a bad 2016 for us and it's only right that we have ambition and desire to do even better and won't settle for what we have got. But if looking at the lovely pictures of the club bringing a bit of Christmas cheer to kids in hospital reminds us of anything,it is the fragility of of the things we hold dear.

Whether that is as a supporter fearing for the future of their club, the player who is one bad injury away from retiring , or the manager looking over his shoulder at a run of bad results.

But without any shade there is no light.

If you ever look at the 'on this day ' section on the website the games that come up from about 10 years ago are at best depressing and at worst unremarkable. Desparate times with only hope to keep you warm. When the opposition were scoring more goals than half our team had clocked up appearances for the club. We were playing just down the road but were a million miles from getting back to Slough. How things have changed and lets cherish that.

Every time I have a bit of a walk to get to Arbour park I remember the times I've pushed cars out of the mud at SYCOB.

Each time I feel unlucky about an injury to a player I remember the game we could not even field a goalkeeper from the start!

Each time we lose when I expected us to win I remember the times when the only question was by how many would we lose each week.

It won't always be nice shiney and opptomisitic the way it is today but bank the good times like these to see you through the bad. And enjoy the rest of the season whatever it brings.

Merry Christmas!
