MacDonald Released

It seems Gary MacDonald has been released and dan Hicks and Hollis will form our centre back partnership. Must admit we looked quite solid the other night and I would imagine this move would allow us some budget for those tweaks we are making.

It's all a juggling act with the budget.

It was only one game but as you say, the Hollis and Hicks partnership did well the other night.

My only slight reservation is when we come up against a big center forward who's good in the air.

Jonah Ayunga was a big centre forward, at least 2 inches taller than Hicks, but Hicks did very well against him and won most headers if not all.

RR - Dan Hicks is better in the air than Mcdonald, so wouldn't be worried about that.

100% the right decision made and another step forward for the squad I would say. Unfortunately Mcdonald is too slow and, IMO, not good enough in the air for the league we are in.

With Craig Scott returning after Xmas and Hicks and Hollis this gives us a very strong 3 centre backs to chose from. Hicks and Hollis are both strong, quick and excellent players and I'm sure once they have played enough together put us in a very good defensive position.

In addition to all of this, the move should also go some way to freeing up some budget for some new signings as well.

All in all another good positive move by Jon and Neil. Looking forward to possibly seeing some new signings soon.

RR - as I wasn't on here at the time of McDonald's signing, or much until recently, where your concerns about him coming up against even an averagely quick forward raise?

I think Dan Hicks is better in the air than Mcdonald and probably Craig Scott is better in the air than both of them, so I don't think that will be an issue with hi release.

To be fair to Gary MacDonald, had he had the midfield in front of him that Hollis and Hicks had on Tuesday night, we might have viewed him better,as we have to remember he's been playing in a struggling team.

While I accept a lot never came off for Gary as a centre half in a two man partnership,we will never know what he may have been like in a three man centre half partnership, or as a defensive holding midfielder, or as a full back,

so it isn't as clear cut as many seem to say it is.

However, freeing up some money for these new loan signings was a good move in my book.
