The Crowing Cockerel
The draw could've been tougher, but it also could've been kinder. Hitchin are on a very good run at the moment and will take some stopping. Of course, we have home advantage, while Hitchin have the boost of the return to their ranks of the prolific John Frendo - IF his parent club allow him to play! Frendo was a scorer for the St Albans side which demolished a very different Town side 6-1 in the FA Cup 2 years ago. Its a pity that the Hitchin manager had the opportunity to spy on the Town side last Saturday following the cancellation of their match. It has all the makings of a classic cup tie at the Donkey Dome on Saturday!
littlehampton
TCC understand where you are coming from and agree that this match could be a classic cup tie. Home advantage is very important, and it needs to be remembered that Town are playing some very good football at present, and are on a good run of their own. We certainly won't be under-estimating Hitchin, and if they did spy on Town last Saturday, they probably would have been quite impressed. They drew at home with Leamington 2-2 on Monday evening, after being two goals down, so perhaps we took the opportunity to have a peep at them. In the end, it all comes down to what we do on the day, and who wants it most. Sure our players will be up for it !There will be a BIG (larger than average) crowd on Saturday, as there are no Premiership matches this weekend. Good chance for Arsenal and Spurs fans, in the Enfield area, to get down to the QEII Stadium to see a FA Cup match, and support their local team. Don't miss it !! lovely stuff
Town learned a lot today about what its like to play at this stage of the FA cup.The opposition were fully committed to win, shut us down quickly and counter-attacked effectively. They also tried to ruffle and upset our players constantly by shirt pulling, sly pushes/digs and trying to influence the ref. The ruckus at the end of the game only happens to us very rarely and is normally instigated only by thuggish outfits. Was surprised Hitchin decided to do this, as half of their team seem to be ball players rather than solely that sort of set-up..Hope they realize that we film all our games even after the final whistle.Their whole team and dug-out decided to enter the pitch as soon as the game ended and proceed to push and grab by the throat any Enfield player that should get at.It could have caused as serious incident because some Town fans behind the goal we contemplating entering the field of play to try to protect our players if it had carried on much longer.A special mention goes to their sub with the perm and black leggings who ran half the length of the pitch in order to confront R.Gabriel. Will be a tough replay because underneath all the agitation i feel Hitchin are a decent footballing team. But if we get a ref experienced enough to not fall for the nonsense (and maybe issue a few early bookings),then i feel if we play at our best and are fully motivated then we can get the win. vauxhallman
I thought they were quite a nasty bunch including there bench a poor show really, i think Mr Frendo was the main instigator after the final whistle and hopefully the film will show that.we defo need a strong ref Mon night who doesn't fall for there play acting. Nathan mom by a country mile imo.
OldTowner
Did not think we had that "extra sparkle" today. Perhaps that was us off colour or Hitchin doing a good job. It will be interesting to read the Hitchin view on the level of performance. If that was their best, then Towners have a good chance on Monday, as I do not think we will play like that again. Another interesting game to look forward to. Hitchin tough tactics, particularly at the end , most unwelcome, but expect the same on Monday. littlehampton
On a bright, blustery afternoon, this highly competitive, evenly contested FA Cup-tie, was every bit as tough as most of us expected. Hitchin are a good side, looked solid at the back, and fully deserved a replay. There were a number of near misses and good saves, at both ends, but Town gave a somewhat nervy performance throughout, and too often gave away possession in the mid-field and lost momentum going forward. Both teams live to fight another day, and will know their next opponents before the replay tomorrow evening. Town can, and will need to, play much better to progress, in what is certain to be another lively affair. We have delivered some excellent away performances this season, and with Bobby Devyne available for selection, after suspension, there is every reason for Towners to be optimistic. Thought there was a great atmosphere throughout the match yesterday. Well done to the Enfield Town Ultras who really made themselves heard. More of the same tomorrow night guys! OldTowner
Massive Support required to push the Team Not that far to travel so let's try to get all supporters there. Hitchin home support never very noisy, so up to Towners to make it a great occasion. Come on you Towners. Next round draw on Talk Sport.
thecoldend
A ground hopper didn't seem to enjoy his visit.... the following is cut and paste from Non-League matter's forum - ********************** Enfield Town (0) 0 Hitchin Town (0) 0 F.A.Cup 3rd Qualifying Round Admission £10 Programme £2 - glossy but little content Attendance 883 - ground record? Coffee £1, Kit Kat 80p Badges only £4 a bargain, well that's what the programme stated - did not buy I do not pocess one badge. Sure most people have already visited, did not like the ground take away the Art Deco Lido / Tude Station and you are left with a unenclosed running track with Arena stands and terrace with very poor sight lines. Car parking OK if you avoided the broken glass and needles, got a quick getaway after the game. Did not like the locals, started in the clubhouse when an one old boy insisted on standing front of me when I was sat down watching one of the TV's. Kept doing it and bumped into me a couple of times not even a sorry. Then his mates decided they wanted to use my table and took all the spares chairs and then moved the table with my coffee and programme on it while I was sat by it. When the game started I stood towards the end Hitchin were attacking in the first minute there was an incident were a player from both sides went into the pitch surround. When they got up the Enfield player pushed the Hitchin player over, a bloke (about my age with his son) a few feet from me shouted "you Hitchin "B" you are a "F"ing "C", charming people. So I moved to the other side of the pitch. Hitchin played by far the better / nicer football, their followers were human and not one of them had a drum unlike some Enfiled "Yuf" who lead his "Ultras" (lets use an in tendy word) in various "songs" a number of which contained various four letter words. Depsite huffing and puffing from both sides we failed to get a goal so it all happens again tomorrow. As I left the ground the ref was blowing his whistle with venum as we had the usual Saturday bout of handbags between the teams and their benches. The ref and linos were very good and explained their decisions though they did take alot of abuse even on clear cut ones. They were quite young all under 35 maybe even 30. The one on the line on the side I stood in the first half was a very pleasant chap. I went to the original Enfield in April 1987 v Sutton United in the Conference the score that night 0-0!. ***************
lovely stuff
Classic..This bloke seems to have a bit chip on his shoulder and some sort of agenda..How can he criticize our car park? Which is the best and probably the biggest in non-league football..The sight lines from all terracing is excellent.Anyone who derides classic art deco architecture is obviously a bit limited..Think the fact he stood with the Hitchin supporters says what you need to know.
