Video Highlights

To film the rest of the home games would cost £1,920 and the rest of the away games a further £2,040.

That is a total of £3,960 which in my opinion is better spent on players considering we are in an up hill struggle at the moment.

Videoing games is a luxury, and as I said before come and watch the games live and see all 90 mins and soak up the atmosphere.

I think Curtis has a point, we need to think of ways that filming the game would generate extra income.  I am a technophobe I didn`t realise there were loads of people that had never bought a CD! It is the digital age, rather than get someone to sponsor, what about the club setting up its own youtube channel or the like.  Match Highlights, interviews with managers, players, Super Kev, training sessions, youth team and the college stuff, trust news etc.  I realise this is a lot more filming, but could be a project for a student at that tv school in Beaconsfield or something.

Also just another thought for getting more people in, the prize money for the 500 club is getting higher and higher which obviously means more people are joining but how about, if the winner is at the game when the draw is made there is a provision for bonus cash or gets the chance to take a penalty at half time for the bonus etc. i.e make a bit more fuss about the 500 club winners, people think i want some of that, where do i join, or if they know there is a chance of a bonus they are more likely to be at the game when the draw is made!

Apologies for the long post just a couple of ideas i had to try and help

There already is a YouTube Chanel and has been for quite a while, only a measly 458 videos on it!!!

That is actually something I have suggested to the 'powers that be', albeit with me still getting paid to film the games professionally/properly so that you would still have the same quality of camerawork.

I would not charge as much if it was a case of just giving my footage (SD card) to the media students on the final whistle for them to do the editing & production (including the Managers unedited DVD) and upload it to the club's You Tube channel.

I can't do the interviews, training sessions, youth team and other stuff myself as I don't live anywhere near the Slough area, but locally-based media students should be able to do a reasonable job working on those things.

While a signed shirt is a nice memento, especially to younger sponsors, I would rather just have a signed programme, if that would help out the club or the Trust.

My observation was that full kit sponsorship is currently standing at £100, for that you get a one line mention in the programme and the signed shirt at the end of season awards.

Why not next season channel kit sponsorship money to pay for the cameraman/filming of the home matches and lessen the cost of kit sponsorship jn the programme. This way you may attract more sponsors for the kit and get the film done as well, thus solving the problem.

SRJ I may be wrong, but uploading videos to youtube and actually having a youtube channel are totally different things.  Maybe Cameraman man can explain how it could be of benefit, i just threw it out there as an idea.  It is something that we are all acutely aware of that our fan base isnt getting any younger! Maybe the way to attract them is through the digital age / social media.  I am not critising what we have now, i think we have great social media, i am just suggesting take it to the next level. Videos of a day in the life of a non league player etc. just something different to any other club in our league that might generate interest in our club!

Our website is fantastic but again thinking out loud could we sell advertising on the site too?  I put on comedy nights once a month at my pub, i have an advert in the programme, but cant change it monthly so it is a possibility i would advertise those nights on the website, sports shops might do it etc, local papers etc

The other question is what do other clubs do for filming?  I don`t go on any other club sites or forums so i don`t know how many teams in our league film games, but they must fund it somehow.

On the YouTube front, for a club of our size what we have is pretty close to as good as it gets. Up until now there have been match highlights, pre match interviews and post match interviews.

As far as doing a "in the life of" it would mean you have to give a player a handheld camera to vlog their day, its something which most people would find very hard to do as its not something which comes naturally and also most people wouldn't want to film their life. Add on top the editing to make it look professional.

One thing we could do on YouTube is link up with Copa 90 (YouTube channel dedicated to football stories) around the time our new ground is being built or when it opens as they could do a short documentary type video on it to put on their channel. This would require some planning and finding the right people to do interviews with.

Copa 90 - 1 million subscribers with regular views of 50,000+ per video.

Bringing this back a little, trying not to over complicate things...the main aim of the videos is not to provide highlights, as good as it is to have them. The main aim is to provide the managers with the full match so they can watch it back afterwards.

We would only be looking at filming the home games by the way.

The money is going to run the club, I was trying to say is the filming money has to come in on top of the sponsorship money, but the idea's on this are good.

Keep them coming.

I think as far as MyFC are concerned though it is both, because something like 95% of their members either live abroad or too far away in the UK to attend matches.

Most clubs at Step 3 level downwards use supporters' hand-held 'palmcorder' footage taken from in amongst the crowd, quite often from behind the goal like the Vine clips posted from the Dorchester match. Invariably highlights will be randomly taken from that and put on You Tube with a few simple opening titles (including some indie rock music) added, and that is fine for most clubs.

A lot depends on what the Team Managers & Coaching staff require though. If they are big on tactical analysis and ProZone stats, etc., then they will want the matches filmed from a half-way line vantage point, either by media students or members of the coaching staff themselves. An increasing number of clubs at Step 3 are doing that now, Histon and Cambridge City being two that I can think of, although invariably it means the filming has to be done on a wide angle to cover the whole pitch, so not much good for supporters wanting to watch highlights if they are edited from that footage.

I would guess the only cost there is paying for the ProZone/analysis software and the camera/tripod/batteries/SD cards for the member of coaching staff doing the filming.

There are certainly an increasing number of clubs at Non-League level finding sponsorship to pay for the above or ideally for professionals such as myself to do the filming & editing though...and that's when the filming will be good enough to cover both aspects (tactical and for match highlights) at the same time.
