Season so far

In terms of our forward options we are currently happy with the 3 mentioned.

Eddie's injury issues are well known to all but so is his fantastic goal record and we have no reason to believe he won't remain fit now and have a really good end to the season.

Scott Harris has scored 10 goals in 16 starts (plus 8 sub apps) for us this season which is a decent strike rate, particularly as we consider him more of a support striker, not an out and out goalscorer, as his biggest attribute is his hold-up play and bringing others in to the game.

Lee has always scored goals and we have had nothing but strong recommendations from the 5 or 6 people we have spoken to about him. His attitude has been spot on since joining and we want to give him plenty of opportunity to prove himself in the coming months.

It is true we don't have a Charlie Mpi type now (there aren't many of those around to be fair!) and as with every other position we will keep our eyes and ears open to see if we can improve our options but this isn't an area of concern for us just now and we look forward to seeing how our 3 forwards form partnerships in the coming weeks.

Fair enough. Totally agree Lee Barney deserves a good trial of games, to determine whether we keep him next season or not.

Unders, I appreciate Scott Harris efforts since he's been at the club. I know you and Bakes think a lot of him and you can never level at him that he doesn't give his all.

I actually wasn't looking to knock either of them.

My observation was about the subsequent hole, figuratively speaking, that Charlie Mpi leaves us with especially with Ed Smith's recurring injury problems. For me they are our first two strikers on the team sheet, if we were putting them in order. No offence mean't to the other two. Just how I view it.

Things, of course, may change on 3g pitch next season?

At most times this season we have only had at most 3 strikers to choose from. That is still the case now so not much is really changing.

The way I see it;

Ed Smith: won't do much of the hassling work but will always get himself into goal scoring positions and gets goals. There is a good reason why he is in the clubs all time goals scorers list closing in on tenth place and would be expected to finish the season in eighth and possibly on 100 goals (currently 92)

Scott Harris: the biggest of our strikers and the only one who can really challenge in the air. He is great at holding the ball up and bringing our wingers into the game up the pitch. Unsurprisingly he has a great understanding with his brother and when both are near their best they play some great one twos and open up the opposition. He won't finish top goal scorer over all but will get his fair share and end up in the top five.

Lee Barney: we have seen the least of him but he does offer a bit of pace. He also has excellent control and can bring the ball down when surrounded. He isn't scared to have a shot and we have already seen a few times that he can find the back of the net.

Each player brings something different, and yes we will miss Charlie but Scott, Lee and Ed can all score goals and win us matches.

Cornish Rebel - Truro City did not initially comply with the requirements to upgrade and had to do so. The thread was discussing the apparent absurdity of Truro having to do so despite vacating the ground for next season. I discussed the reasons for this and also suggested that perhaps a sensible compromise would have been for the monies expended to have been donated to a deserving charity or charities. There needs to be some flexibility but the basis for the ground grading regulations is as I explained.

Dave you seem to say that Truro did not comply but they did everything that was asked .....extended dugouts, some fencing and covering some seats all by the date requested.I agree the rules about doing the extra work when you are having to move at the end of the season are rather stupid but this is what the idiots at the fa want ..with no flexibility.Just to finish this subject Truro will have to do further ground updates if they wish to participate in the playoffs.

Cornish Rebel - I was not questioning what Truro have done but what the total requirement was and the questioning thereof. Truro had to upgrade to comply with the Grade B requirement to compete in the National South and had the grace period to do so. The fact that they were planning to move out at the end of the season really is irrelevant  since everyone could say that and avoid carrying out the compliance work. Hence my historical recollection of the Colne Dynamoes scenario. Anyway best wishes for the new ground.

  • 2 weeks later...

After 34 league matches last season we had 43 points and a goal difference of -14...... this season 46 points and -4.

At this stage I think I would be happy if we could finish with a winning record (more wins than defeats, currently 13 wins and 14 defeats), and a positive goal difference..... which should ensure a top half finish.
