Finances from the FA Cup

Recommended Posts

Sorry to be pedantic, but I'm having a little trouble reconciling Glen Aitkin's statement that Fleet stand to make about £75,000 from the cup run.

My (very) approximate calculations show something over £100,000.

Total attendance from 4 games = 9096

Say average £10 per head

Total gate receipts roughly £ 91,000

Very conservative share (including deductions for police/stewarding) = £35,000.

Total prize money = £22,500

Sky Money = £50,000.

Add the gate money, the prize money and the Sky money = at least £107,500.

This figure does not include the extra profit from programs, beer sales and burgers etc, so I would have expected something over £110,000 profit, which is rather different to the claimed profits.

Could someone please explain ?

On different point, I wonder if Paul Gibbs realises how much money his moment of madness MAY have cost the club. Had he stayed on we may have held out for a win and a £250,000 payola against Middlesborough.

That is hypothetical, but I expect we will now collect our £10,000 suspended discpilinary fine !!

To Gibbs it is just a sending off, and a lost match, to Fleet it could have been the windfall to help us go full time.

No pride in wearing the red jersey, that's the problem. I bet Jacko wouldn't have scythed their fella down !!

This is what was actually said.

Fleet know they are heading for a £75,000 FA Cup cash bonanza as they prepare for Saturday’s match which kicks off at 5.35pm.

Having already pocketed £22,000 from the Football Association’s prize fund payment pool following victories against Exeter and Chester and with Sky Television paying a further £50,000 to broadcast live Saturday’s tie - not to mention their share of gate receipts - the Fleet are in the money.

Of course I don't, but I don't think we should treat one player differently from all the others, just because it was a Cup game.

Surely the fact that Pinnock's sending off and O'Reilly's sending off cost us league points the loss of which at the end of the season may prove to be far more disasterous that not getting a replay against Notts County.

Dave,

My view extends to the Pinnock incident as well. Both Gibbs and Pinnock let the side down badly by committing fouls / retaliating in such a way which got themselves sent off. I can't comment on the O'Reilly sending off because I wasn't at the game to see it.

I think if Gibbs sticks around he would do well to watch the example of the younger, inexperienced players. If they're in the same position they just get on with it. A discliplined, committed, less arrogant (got that impression listening to him on RK) would be a great asset to the club, but I think he's just been using us.

I agree - I made comments about Gibbs & his sending off as I feel that he isn't here for long haul - hence the trials elsewhere.

Does he really care about the clubs progress? The 'probable' fine at the end of the season?

Granted, people can argue about the others who have seen red but at least the likes of McKimm are committed to club & cause.

Adam Miller being the other greedy exception.

Steve McKimm's booking on Saturday means that he will miss the match against Woking.

That means that we will be without:

Pinnock, who also misses the Burton match on Saturday and the match against Margate on 27th December.

Gibbs, who will also miss both Margate matches.

McKimm - just this match, to add to the three he has already missed this season.

Well can't have any loan signings as we still have our two, which is all we are allowed.

Woking is due to be Dennis Oli's last match under the current loan, but hopefully that will be extended.

Lee Protheroe's loan is due to end after the first Margate match.

Incidently, because of the re-arramgement of that date, any player that earns a ban against Burton will miss that match rather than the home game as any suspension will start on 27th December.
