Redditch

Lets hope we can get back to winning ways tonight . I believe we can do well . Redditch lost several key players  during the break and are struggling to score goals  having only managed 12 in 9 games  Unlike last season they are not turning anyone over 3 of their 4 wins are by a single goal They have still an excellent defense but we have some top class strikers.  If we concentrate from the word go and eliminate the silly errors we have every reason to expect to get something from this game.

Lost 2-0, 2 soft goals despite having the lion's share of possession and more than enough chances (especially in the first half) to get back into the game. A decent team would have got something from this game as Redditch were there for the taking, as the effort was there but the quality certainly wasn't.

If this doesn't convince some people that the team (and one or two players in it) aren't performing, than I'm not sure what will.

I think the keeper was only worked 3 times in the game.

2 injuries during the game doesn't help but neither does continually conceding in the first 10 minutes or playing with 7 players because there isn't a midfield.

On loan Jhai Dhillon showed up many players tonight (somehow didn't win motm) only other player to come out with any credit is Charlie Mpi who played on his own up front chasing the hoof balls up to him.

Significant changes and results are needed fast.

Curiously, I would like to know what has happened between the end of the promotion season and where we are now, moving up a level aside, the style and excitement of the football we saw that season has vanished and the way the sided is performing pales in comparison.

The better team won tonight.

Obviously losing Nathan Webb so early on wasn't great. However, first half tactics of route one football just didn't work, the Redditch centre backs were far too strong in the air.

At half time the tactics we changed slightly to play the ball on the ground however, it was still too direct and we never really got a chance to put our foot on the ball and control the game.

Redditch centre mid Osbourne controlled the game for them and was MotM for me.

2-0 is an improvement on 7-1 and 4-0  but still not where we want to be.

One positive is that Jhai Dhillon looks decent, got a fair bit of pace and tracks back well.

Tonight's game was frustrating but you can't moan about the effort the players put in.

We gave away the first goal by not shutting down properly, which was annoying. For most of the game, though, we had the majority of possession but with no real cutting edge.

Losing Nathan Webb so early didn't help our cause.

I thought Dhai Dhillon made an excellent contribution and was my man of the match. To be honest, I'm finding it hard to be critical of anyone.

What's disappointing is our shot ratio, we only made their keeper make one decent save. Most of the other shots were powder puff efforts or one's that were clearly miles off target.

What is concerning is that we are struggling to play good passing football or creating anything different.

Have to credit Redditch in their closing down, as they defended very well and often had three players marking anyone threatening their penalty area, which often was Charlie Mpi, Lewis Putman or Warren Harris.

Currently I think I would play Lewis Putman as a left winger as he crosses well and has pace but as a forward he's struggling to impose his game and while he tries hard enough to get involved, he's a bit lightweight to what is needed at the moment.

Scott Harris made a difference when he came on but we got caught straight away with the sucker punch of their excellent well worked, adventurous free kick which lead to their second goal.

Back to the drawing board, I think !

It worries me that we have played 7 of the other 11 sides in the bottom half in our opening 10 games

Need to get some points on the board and move slightly away from that bottom 4

Think the managers and every Slough fan know that Slough need to start winning games, Mark44.

If only we could get a magic wand for that to happen ! ! !

2nd game running we have found ourselves behind early on, weathered a bit of a storm, worked ourselves back into the game but not made anywhere near enough out of the openings we created.

Then 2nd half we have struggled to really find a way to produce much chance wise and again what we did have we made the keeper barely make a save.

Towards the end at 1-0 we still had a chance to nick something but we have switched off and given the sort of soft goal that pretty much no team is going to miss and its game over

Unfortunately some players are not performing as they can or as well as we need them to be and it must be close to being last chance saloon for some I'm afraid before its too late and too much damage is done.

Don't want to be looking down rather than up in the table but its what find myself doing.

So so frustrating but we must try to stay behind the side. In fairness the fans tried 2nd half

Tom, you've made some fair points but I do think it's unfair to compare this current squad to the promotion one.

First off, many of the players in the Central promotion team, and when first brought in, were from Godalming FC who had an allegiance to Bakes and Unders and been with them for a considerable time.

What was good is that our managers cherry picked the best Slough players and bought in one ex player that of Jake Parsons to mould together.

Throughout the Central season there was a togetherness/good team spirit.

Last season after promotion many players didn't make the step up and so new blood was needed but a hard settling down season with squad changes, got us a credible consolidation to stay in the division.

This season, we've brought in a lot of new faces and team spirit takes time to build. Our passing football has suffered because of a wretched series of injuries and player absences, which has hampered continuity, and that in turn also make players need time to bed in with others.

I believe we will have to chop and change quite a few personnel to get it right this season but we are not a million miles away from finding the right blend.

That said, to get it right, we may have to go backwards a bit in the skills mode, to grind out some results, as this Premier division is a learning curve for Bakes and Unders, as well as many of the team and by the looks of it, we are limited financially to who we can bring in, ie, in terms of player quality.

We said wait for 10 games gone.....

Serious question, when the team is struggling, why do we not train every opportunity? A night off training last week according to interview, makes no sense to me, even if it's light if we are struggling with injuries, just walk and talk through where we are struggling.

I'm sure I will be wrong for asking that.

Tonight, disappointing, Jhai best player and appeared he wanted it most and is 'on loan' . I am sure we will turn it around, sat is a good day to do it against a fragile Basingstoke.

Recapping we had far more efforts. A number of headed efforts Putnam nailed a free header wide McDonald grazed the stantion mcclurg has one blocked and whacked a couple wide and warren could have had a hat trick on another day. Feel if those chances had fallen to Ed smith we would have scored at least 3 of them... Need him back and fit and firing on all cylinders.

Also re injuries don't know whether it's something to do with training regime or this league or maybe bunderwood are cursed, but I'm sure we've had more injuries in the last few years than in the previous 10!

Marcus we had chances as did Redditch but theirs were better and our only came by numbers in the box. Midfeild need to support forwards more and be more aggressive, quicker and play forward more not sideways or back. They got through us far to easily at times.

I don't think Eddie would have scored 3 tonight, bit harsh to suggest that over Charlie and puts, although I expect he would have hurried the keeper up a bit.

We tried hard but just didn't have enough quality and support to forwards. It's a concern we struggle to score but can gift teams goals.

Mom tricky but MacDonald got it just ahead of front two.

Fa cup on Saturday, let's hope for same effort but more quality all over the park.

Regarding injuries the 3 last night (although Clurgy managed to finish game) were from late tackles on Nathan and Guy and Clurgy's was from twisting his knee on the uneven area in the middle of the pitch, the exact same thing in the same part of the pitch that Searsy injured his knee vs Burnham.

The injury on Saturday to Hatchet which forced him off was a dead leg from a late tackle.

Major injuries this season were the 2 in the opening game which were a bone injury to Craig Scott and Jake who missed 5 weeks after landing awkwardly off the pitch on an uneven area just off the pitch.

None of the above can be attributed in any way to fitness, training or anything else preventable.

The only muscle injury we've had this season that I can remember is Eddie's hamstring which is an ongoing problem that he is trying everything possible to overcome.

And before someone jumps on this post I am just adding a few facts to a question asked, I am not making excuses.

Firstly, I thought Redditch were a good team. They had quick players in most positions and were certainly 'not there for the taking'.

The first goal was far too easy with 3 or 4 Slough players not putting a challenge in before the ball eventually ending up in the net.

For the second goal we simply switched of at a free kick and let Redditch's left back receive the ball in acres of space leading to the goal.

Despite the result I think we showed some real grit and determination to get back into the game and IMO produce one of our better performances of the season so far.

For large parts of the game I thought we at least matched a good Redditch team, had more chances to score and with a bit more luck and better finishing could have got something from the game.

I thought Jhai Dillon, for his first game was excellent along with Gary Mac, Putts and Wazza were the pick of our players.

If we keep producing that sort of effort without doubt our luck will start to turn.

Thought we played well for periods but didn't make the most of our chances often choosing the wrong option or taking too long. When you concede so early (as we've done too often this season) it immediately puts you on the back foot. Thought jhai was clearly our MOTM with Charlie also battling hard. Actually thought it wasn't Lewis' best match tonight - he looked a little lightweight and was constantly knocked off the ball. Also think he should win more in the air with his height. Sure mark Scott will be disappointed with the 2nd which he should certainly have done better with but that's pretty much the first error I've seen from him (albeit from not that many games). Gutted that we lost Nathan so early (to a very cynical tackle btw) as I do believe he and Adam Martin are our best midfield pairing. Don't think it will come as a surprise to anyone that I don't feel we've seen the best of Jamie mcclurg since the promotion. I know he's had some injuries but really think he's struggled at times with the step up. Having said all that, honestly believe if we can perform like last night on Saturday and cut out the errors we can get something. Gutted I can't make it but let's make some noise and turn this patch around!!!
