Hale Leys fully deserved their 2 goal lead and came close to going 3 up. They then missed a pen that would have made it 3-1. They were good going forward and battled in midfield. Much respect for them.

The story of the night may be the extra time played......but should be about the 90 attendance......nearly every one of them singing the whole night. This match had everything you could hope for from a cup match.......and so much more!

30 minutes more...

What's your gut feeling Loucas? Did the ref balls it up? Do you think the game will have to be replayed? Or maybe just the penalties? How did nobody in the ground know that there is no ET in the challenge trophy?

Excellent fan base you are growing there though, good luck to you

Maybe neither club who had representation at the AGM when straight to pens was voted were at the game.

And maybe neither side had read the Competition Rules. However, it's all down to the referee - cue Mick Ewen......

Based on a previous precedent - when a referee went straight to penalties without playing extra-time, because of deteriorating grind conditions - I'm guessing the game will be replayed.

I've just seen on Twitter that Hale Leys had their left-back sent off in extra-time. I assume (as with any other abandoned game) that the sending-off will stand, although Hale Leys will not want the same referee again this season!!

Anything that happened during the 30 minutes of extra time is surely null and void. Goals, bookings, reds, the lot, because the extra 30 minutes should never have taken place.

Straight to penalties for me

The officials seemed unsure. Our normal match secretary was sick. The officials googled the SSML handbook which apparently still says extra time then pens. The match secretaries shook hands to agree to that.

I think the result will stand. It was a great night with an electric atmosphere and the best support I have ever seen for a mid week game. We don't have a reserve team so we have been playing friendlies to give squad players a chance......personally if we had to replay it I would just see it as another opportunity to give some guys minutes so am completely relaxed either way.

You think you've seen it all in ssml and then this happens!

The ref has had an absolute shocker here. Funny thing is, I imagine someone probably DID try to tell him, and knowing most ssml refs, he was arrogant and just didn't listen!

Electric atmosphere - 'shocking' scenes. Got to feel for Hale Leys. A replay or penalty kick is a must in my opinion.

Don't know where they googled - but it clearly states in the on-line handbook available on Full Time

The Referees were informed pre-season of the change in Competition Rules regarding extra time.

The Rule change is in the on-line version of the hand book.

Yellow and reds will count even the ones that were shown in extra time.

Now it gets a touch complicated.

If the match was abandoned then any player using the fixture as a nominated match for suspension purposes will find that it does not count.

If the fixture is declared void then it may also be deemed as not counting towards a nominated match for suspension.

Was the Referee being assessed?  :D
