Hornchurch started confidently, and when George Purcell crossed from the left, David Knight was only a fraction away from getting the touch needed to put the ball into the net. After Purcell had fired over, and a Joey May corner was wasted, Hornchurch took the lead when Billy Coyne combined with Joey May to send Abs Thompson away on the right. Abs cut inside and David Knight was ideally placed to slot the ball home. It soon became two nil. Joey May sent over a corner, Tobi Joseph headed goalwards, and although Darren Behcet got a hand to the ball he could not prevent it from crossing the line, with David Knight following up just to make sure. A minute later Barkingside pulled a goal back when Luke With got onto the end of a cross from the left wing and fired home. Hornchurch had the majority of the territorial play, and when Harry Baker moved on to a long throw by Billy Coyne, his shot came back off a defender. A Thompson shot was turned out for a corner, which led to a second corner, from which Elliot Styles headed over. Hornchurch almost conceded a second goal when With headed a free kick onto the roof of the net from a George Lutaaya free kick. After another May corner was cleared, Joseph headed on a Sam Mott clearance to Purcell, whose shot came back off the inside of the post. Harry Baker created an opening for Knight but his shot was over the bar, whilst Hornchurch thought they should have had a penalty when Purcell appeared to be brought down inside the area. During stoppage time George Purcell took a long ball from Harry Baker, rounded Darren Behcet and slotted home. Within five minutes of the second half Hornchurch had two opportunities to increase their lead, but both Purcell and Knight failed to convert, Purcell firing wide and Behcet saving from Knight. Nathan Cooper, signed from Romford during the week, replaced Elliot Styles who had a head injury, and was quickly in action with a neat interception. With missed a good chance for the visitors, Purcell sent a free kick over the bar at the other end, and then followed a lengthy stoppage when Danny Johnson fell awkwardly. A stretcher was called for, and Jed Chouman came on as substitute, whilst Johnson was treated at the side of the ground until the ambulance arrived. Mott comfortably fielded a free kick, and With wasted a good chance by heading high over the bar, before George Purcell took a long pass from Knight, and gave keeper Behcet no chance with a powerful drive to make it four. Hornchurch were now in total command, and Joseph hit a shot over, Thompson was brought down but play was allowed to continue, Thompson headed over, and Behcet made the save of the match from Purcell, turning the shot out for a corner. In the final minute of stoppage time – just four minutes were added on, despite several substitutions and two very long stoppages for injury - George Purcell scored his third goal, and number five for Hornchurch, from close range, after the visiting defence failed to cut out a cross from the wing.
