FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

Recommended Posts

It will be another game where our own self belief and confidence will decide the outcome Its a one off cup tie where relative positions dont always count for much. epicrebel is correct about them playing  a number of the so far top teams in their league but the salient point is that they didnt beat any of them  Their record over their last 12 games  is  lost 7  drew 5  Hardly something to scare us.

It will be interesting to see how they do against St Albans and Wealdstone this week (who are both just above the relegation places).

saying all that they've played Hayes & Y and Margate just above them and only got 1 point,

After this weekend they've played 4 out of the bottom 5 (not including themselves)

The only team near the middle is Bishops Stortford (17th) which they also got a point.

I think it's a good draw, being that it's relatively near, against a team lacking in confidence and one where we are the slight underdogs.

If we can get a win at Bedworth and at the same time bang in a few goals. Then I will be very confident that we can beat Basingstoke and cause an upset.

Not saying we can't win, if we lose or draw to Bedworth but the confidence of our side will be low, which would effectively make the task of beating Basingstoke,a lot harder.

Bit of a bummer that we have to play Redditch on the Tuesday night  before the cup game.

Be great if we can get a winning run of form going, as long as we don't experience what happened last season at home to Redditch !

Quite excited about the draw, goes without saying it is a tough fixture and there were plenty others we would have preferred, however I think it will have a real good cup feel about it, and would be great if we can take big numbers and make loads of noise.

They are obviously low on confidence currently but that is what happens when you go on a winless run, however as a side they are not much different with the exception of one or two players from the team that came very close to winning the conference south last year.

Myself and Kev saw them narrowly beaten in the Conference South play offs last year against Whitehawk, and we know the management team and a number of players very well there.

If we are going to get a good cup run then we will no doubt be paired against higher placed teams, and like Saturday where we were the favourites and Dorking W were underdogs, the boot will be on the other foot, and being the FA Cup who knows which way it will swing.

Financially its best to be drawn away in the early rounds. Had we hosted Dorking Wanderers we would have lost money (not including the prize money), whereas we made money from no expenses and sharing any profit from the gate. Hope we could take 150-200 to Basingstoke so a crowd of around 600 might be possible, all extra money.

"no expenses"

what about travel and wages ???

If we were at home surely there would have been a bigger crowd so more money, golden goal and raffles make money. And surely FA Cup matches we should sell a few more T-shirts and merchandise from those who come only a few times a season. (That's just a guess)

There is also no travel costs.
