Tel
A 1-0 victory puts more money in the pot. Bitz scored the only goal. Ashford should have had more goals before Kempston hit the bar. Ashford held out at the end for a win and an away trip in the next round.

Swifty
Away to Hoddesdon Town or Romford on September 12th. They drew 0-0 today. Chertsey Town lost 4-1 in the cup today, so Monday's 11.30 kick-off goes ahead.
lazarus
Keep your eyes out for the result of the FA Cup replay in midweek, Royston Town v Thurrock. Should Thurrock win, it is likely that our match against Romford (if they win) is likely to be on the Sunday, as Romford share at Thurrock, who would also be at home in the Cup, if they win their replay. B378
Hope Hoddesdon win then, as I am off work The 12th, but go back on the 13th!
fatboyatmfc
That's the sort of game that last year we would have let slip. We are creating lots of chances and look very solid at the back. The ref was out of his depth and lost control of a fairly contested game.....poor for both sides! Afc kempston were a nice bunch, enjoyed their company. Onto Hodds or Romf next. I hope it's played on the Sunday as it's the Mrs birthday on the Saturday ! Bit inconsiderate.
manurgrate
Its always good to have a run in the FA Cup, in creates a buzz about Short Lane and of course provides some much needed income. In the end the tie was decided by a scruffy goal from Mark Bitmead, which was thoroughly deserved after some excellent play from us before the interval. I thought we lost our way in the second half, Kempston dominated possession but they weren't able to make many chances due to a combination of good defending and poor play by them in the final third. Lewis and Russell were both very good at the back, Lewis has made a big difference this season. Maybe we got away with not playing a specialist right back although I realise the importance of rotating the squad at this stage of the year. Pitbull
Absolute shocker by the Referee and what is even more worrying is he is on our league. Three blind mice were the only ones in the ground who didn't see Tyler punched but Tyler gets yellow for protesting.

Tel
During the first half when Ashford were well on top there was so much shirt pulling Ashford players were lucky to have shirts on their backs at half time, the Ref. was awful at best! Swifty
One of my Bognor supporting mates had a very interesting chat with a 'lino' recently on the train back from a game at Nyewood Lane. The 'lino' had played non-League for quite a few years (starting in the West Sussex League and working his way up) and then decided to become an official, to give something back to the game. Knowing he'd started too late to get anywhere near the top, he was at least happy to ref games in the Ryman and Southern Leagues but, nowadays, he and others like him are being given very few ref roles and instead they're made to run the line for far less experienced refs being fast-tracked up the leagues, maybe because they're young enough to make it to Step 5 or even higher. Apparently, there's an alarming number of experienced refs with years of experience left who are leaving non-League due to frustration at playing second fiddle to young refs (who, in many cases, have no idea how to man manage) and being given responsibility for just flagging throw-ins, goal kicks, offsides and corners. I wasn't at the Kempston game, so I have no idea of the ref's experience, but I thought you might be intrigued at the subject matter.
lazarus
It's not a secret Eddie. It is a fact that in the CCL and probably all the other Step 5 leagues, all the referees in the Premier Division, except in exceptional circumstances, are Level 4's, who are often the younger officials trying to make it into higher levels. Some are very good (quite a number have made it to the Football League in recent seasons), some less so, as we have seen. There is little doubt though that some are being fast tracked by the FA too quickly for their own good In the meantime, we have ex Football League referees such as Johnny Singh, David Crick etc. officiating in Division One. Were we ever to be relegated, that would be a crumb of comfort! Also, the younger ones invariably come into the Boardroom for their customary orange juice and usually leave as soon as they have done their statutory duty. The older ones who have seen it all before tend to have a beer and stay chatting for much longer, which is good, as lots of things can be sorted out in the Boardroom sometimes. Tel
I can remember in the past, certain Refs had to be encouraged the leave the club as it was time to lock up, that was when Iain was barman. One ref who migrated from the North East of the country was one of the best refs we had and he being a Northener new what beer was for.
Swifty
I remember that ref - John, a Sunderland man who ran (runs?) a newsagent in Staines. He was superb. He recognised me once at a Bognor away game, saw I had my radio in my hand, and halted play at a throw-in, whereby he ran over to me and asked Sunderland's score! Tel
It was John Ford now domiciled in Sunderland.i didn't mention Johns name because of the statement I made about being last out of the club. He wasn't the only official who seemed to stay late. Another ref, can't rember his name took me under his wing in the U 18 league, Julie thought extra time and penalties took place at all the games I assisted him.
