I was there yesterday

BOROMAN

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would give my observations on yetserday.

Great occasion for local football, the stadium looked great with the two stands behind the goals. Pitty the Bridge House didn't open till 12,queue for beer was very long so it was a swift jog to the Essex Yeoman and back.

Great to see progs pegged back to a £1.

1st ten mins looked as though Tranmere would dominate, but once Urchins knew what they were up against they coped very well. Come second half they were dictating the pace and were desperatly unlucky to come away with nought.

Those refereeing decisions:

Both Vinny John incidents were unclear to me at the time, having seen them again on the telly this morning, the disallowed goal looked incorrect, and as for the pen I am still not sure one way or the other.

What the telly didn't show was two free kicks that wern't given on in the second half late on. One for a obstruction on Steve West, and the other for a push on someone. Also they did not show the ridiculous free kick that was given in the first half for the back pass tothe keeper. Nobody could convince me it was deliberate.

On a sour note, I was a little concerned with a racist element in the crowd on the east covered terrace. The id rather be a pa%i than a scouse was a bit ott, and I heard one geezer describing the Urchins performance to someone via mobile as follows: "We should be winning but he's picked too many black players" I hope these lowlifes were only one off's for the big game, I sure they were.

Overall, really enjoyed the game, and was stillable to get down to Aveley to see Boro put 5 past London APSA.

Well done and hard luck.

One guy on a phone to a mate, I'd hardly call it a major racist problem that needs to been drawn to everyone’s attention! And how many black players did Hornchurch have playing for us yesterday??? Vinny John, whose name was continually, sang by the crowd on the East Terrace, Ollie, Scott Gooding, Gavin McGowern and Lloyd Opara. Nearly half the team, so what true and loyal Urchin fan would possibly make comments like that?? How about mentioning the 100's of families that made up so much of the crowd yesterday. Sorry, I suspect that your intentions were well meant, but like the Bedford fan we had on here a few weeks ago, who claimed that he was subjected to some over zealous banter from some kids at one of our home matches which at first he laughed off a being high jinx. However, when he realised he had an audience, suddenly he turned it into a call to arms for fellow fans of other clubs, claiming that all Urchin fans go to games tooled up!!! I stood on the East Terrace, I never heard any racist comments, and in fact I stood just a few feet from a young black kid standing on the terrace. I'm sorry if you feel I am over reacting, but I feel you are labelling or at least trying to label our support as being racist, when there isn't a racist problem at the club. Are you telling me that no Romford supporter has ever made a racist comment at a game?? If there is a problem then the club will deal with it. When we had a few problems with some gobby kids over there, us FANS complained about it and the club acted immediately. For our league games, we have a very good and well behaved core support, us fans won't allow that to be hijacked by anyone who has other intentions, other than getting 100% behind the team. In a crowd of 3500 I'm sure there were a few that had never been to the Urchins in their life and jumped aboard the bandwagon and I suspect were the type that made the alleged comment you heard.

Lord, talking about the game being "hijacked" by certain elements...

I didn't mention it before hand, because really it was just all $hi7 talk, and I didn't want to give it any more publicity than it deserved, but I found a post on an ICF message board several weeks ago which said that they were willing to come down to give our Urchins "hardboys" some help against Tranmere. Fortunately, this tw@t only received 3 replies and the idea seemed to die the death it deserved.

Unreal aint it!!

You're 100% right Lord. Majority of us over here are Football fans and won't put up with spoilers, whether racist or otherwise.

Sorry Lordy

My post was not intended to make that it's main theme, but as there is a "kick the racisim out of football" ad in your prog, I thought it was worth bringing to your attention.

I agree, these moron's were probably glory hunters who you won't see agin till your next massive game. It did not intend my comments to be any slur on Hornchurch.

Thank you Boroman and as I said in my original response, I felt your post was made with the best intentions. I can hand on heart say I have never heard anything racist chanted at a Hornchurch match, like I said, when half your team is made up of black players, it would rather beg belief that any true Urchins fan would say that. As you quite rightly say, a crowd were made up of substantially more than the usual Urchins support!

Maladroit, I think your find that half the stuff written on these Holli websites is utter tosh written by sad, spotty teenagers from the safety of their PCs. They would run a mile if any real aggro kicked off! So in short I would totally ignor anything you read on there and don't give these cretins any credit by even mentioning it.

BTW what were you doing on there <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
