vs Poole

I thought it was a good contest first half with us having the best chances from Wazza and Ed. I don't remember Mark Scott having to do much and Ed, Charlie and Wazza gave the Poole back four a much more uncomfortable afternoon than last season.

However the game seemed to end for us after we scored early in the second half after a great finish from Ed. Not much we could do for the first goal of theirs which was very special. After that it was all Poole and they deserved the win overall. I think our fitness was an issue with the front players perhaps understandably tiring having not played much football. The midfield couldn't really get a grip on the game and some sloppy play lead to their goals and the sending off.

Not too disappointed with the performance today but still not to happy with the balance of the side - the left side of midfield is an issue for me.

Hope the lads can put their feet up for Monday!

I thought that overall Poole shaded it, but there were promising signs in our performance.  I have no doubt that that the squad is good enough to challenge in the top half of the table.  For me the man of the match was Charlie Mpi who worked his socks off, in what was his first match for some time.  He put himself around, got in some crosses, and won some great flick ons, though it will take a little time for the others to get to read his intentions.  I know most will disagree but I thought the sending off was clear cut and correct.

Disappointed not to get something from the game because over the 90 minutes I thought we deserved at least a point.

First half I thought Poole edged it with the better scoring chances.

Second half I though we started very brightly with Ed Smith scoring a very good goal. Unfortunately we then commenced to shoot ourselves in the foot by conceding almost straight away. OK it was a very well taken goal that sat up very nicely for the Poole player, Devlin I think, but it was a basic mistake that gave the ball away that gave him the chance.

The second goal was again down to player error that gave the ball away in a dangerous area that presented Poole with the chance to score.

The third goal was simply bad defending from a player who isn't a defender but found himself in a defensive position where any mistake would ultimately prove costly and it did.

The sending off from what I can remember seemed debatable with Sean Fraser very close to the incident. I think I'll have to see the video to confirm if Fraser was in a position to be a covering player or not.

Overall I was pleased with the way we played, if we had cut out the individual errors we would have come away with something from the game.

' Overall ' I was disappointed not to get more from the game, regardless of who the opposition were.

Individual mistakes may have cost us the goals conceded but we had Poole rattled with our goal and their defence were looking vulnerable but unfortunately they got straight back into the game with their equaliser.

Our heart, endeavour and belief seemed to drain out of us, once that happened, which to me is the thing that irks most about the loss.

Let's hope we can get ourselves fired up for the Chesham derby game. We need to get a win there, which is never an easy task and we will need a full bloodied effort to get it.

In fairness between 1-1 and going 2-1 down I thought we still looked lively and game was still even and if anything we edged it until it went 2-1.

Once we fell behind we seemed to drop a bit I guess due to fact we felt a bit unfortunate to find ourselves behind when we had played pretty well.

I actually thought that Poole were well superior first half despite our having maybe the best two chances.

Their first goal was through a player thinking he was better than he is leading to  the inevitable mistake--the second could also have been defended better and the third seemed to be because some of our lads looked very tired. we played as Poole's equals for most of the second half and at 2-1 there was always the chance of a goal.

The big positives were the return of Charlie Mpi and his speed and the undoubted MOTM performance of Sean Fraser (who on earth gave it to Lakey !)................but although it is still early (6 games out of 46) there have to be improvements overall as it can be a long season if wins are hard to come by at the beginning. Some of the team have to be persuaded that they are (or can be) as good as the opponents.

But tomorrow is another day.................................

Can't deny that most teams are strong in this league, those that supposedly aren't still have the potential to pull out a result or two as we've seen.

So far we've been undone by some back luck on richochets and refereeing decisions, however as we all know it balances out through the season, so here's to some lucky rebounds in our favour on Monday!

As well as his speed, I thought it was extremely useful to have a player the size of Charlie, challenging the big defenders of Poole in the aerial battles.

Had we had more oomph/gusto from our midfielders, we may have caused an upset but having failed to capitilise on our opening goal, we sadly blew our hopes of getting anything from the game.

Oh well, no good moaning about spilt milk, on to the next one now

The bad luck and spilt milk stories are starting to become to repetitive, and have been trotted out too much since the beginning of this calendar year.

For the last 20 games of the season gone (Jan to April) only 15 points were picked up.

This season 6 games 5 points.

That is 20 points from 26 games (average 0.77 points per game, over 46 games that is 35 points) - if that "bad luck" continues then it is relegation - not what is required as we move into the new ground!

Time to stop the excuses and time to deliver on the pitch.

A fair point, Rebel1965, but January to now figures count for nothing. What matters is this season only.

Admittedly 5 points from 6 games isn't a great return but come on, what do we expect? We've not been able to get a settled centre half pairing, our midfield has not quite found it's feet and in the last game, we're playing a new combination up front.

In my mind, we've been desperately unlucky with injuries and unforeseen absences in the centre half positions and we will get it right soon.

We've now got 5 decent forwards on our books which will prove to be a winner.

The midfielders have to find some consistency for the team to improve and will need to step up to the plate or changes will be inevitable.

So far from my point of view, the only thing the managers have got wrong this season was letting Chris Henry go

too early.

6 games is too early to judge how our season is going to go. We're know a lot more by the time we get to 15 games and in this time period we should be seeing a vast improvement, given the experience and the adaptability we have in the squad.

We may have to look out for a replacement left winger at some point, too.

Doom and gloom it certainly isn't,Rebel1965.
