vs Poole

Could be a good time to play Poole. They have had an indifferent start to the season and have a new first team coach today.

Although as JonBlack would say 'There are no easy games...'

Come on Rebels, lets take this scalp.

Indifferent start by their high standards but still above us and IMO they have played the bigger and better teams.

We could also have a new unproven strike force with Ed Smith coming back from injury and Charlie MPI, as far as I know, not having played a competitive game since sometime last season.

A great scalp to take but in all honesty I think we are up against it.

While I think we were unlucky to lose today, I'm also of the mind that we didn't do enough to win either.

If anything I feel we let Poole off the hook, which may be a surprise to some, given their tag as favourites for the title.

In the first half we were equal to them and if we had been able to hang on to our 1-0 lead longer, we may have made a better hash of it for the remainder of the game.

Nothing we could do about their wonderful equaliser but seemed rather against the run of play IMO.

However, what was disappointing was the lack of desire to fight for a result in our midfield and so it appeared that we believed that Poole were the better team, before we really had been beaten.

A Leigh Rumbold or a Ben Edwards type would have been useful in that second half, as too many midfielders looked frightened to get stuck in and it became obvious that we were going to get rolled over, before the Stuart Lake sending off.

Credit to both strikers today, who worked their socks off. Had they had more support from the centre of midfield,we may have had a more favourable outcome than we eventually got.

My man of the match, though, was Sean Fraser, who put himself about and is currently playing as well as he's ever done.

Perhaps if anything, we respected Poole's reputation too much and also lacked that real captain material.

Still, early days, not a bad effort today but we will need to address these issues in the coming weeks.
