Swifty
Don't kick the ball out of play to ensure an injured player gets treatment. It appears AFC Kempston Rovers, 2-0 down at the time, scored from what Oxhey Jets thought would be an uncontested throw-in after they kicked the ball out for an injured Jets forward to be seen to. The incident apparently changed the game, and Rovers snuck in to win the match 3-2.
Big J R
Plenty on this incident in 'Tonys' football web site. It would appear that 'sporting' behaviour' is dead in sport.
manurgrate
Personally I have always opposed this protocol, after all it isn't part of the laws of the game. Most of the time players who go down aren't really injured as they are up again after a rub of the sponge. Play to the whistle and let the referee decide when to stop play! Swifty
It's a very grey area. What AFCKR did can't technically be classified as unsporting or unethical, as there are no laws on the procedure. I was merely trying to tell our lads to keep focussed and not switch off or get caught out.
manurgrate
I was just making a general point that not giving the ball back in those circumstances is considered unsporting but feigning injury to be just part of the game.
