Calvin Poku made a good run but could not control a difficult ball and fired over the bar, whilst Elliot Styles headed over from a Joey May corner. Poku broke through on 15 minutes but was tackled inside the area as he was about to shoot, and Hornchurch went ahead when Calvin Poku headed home powerfully from a Joey May free kick. The second goal followed in spectacular fashion when Billy Coyne hit home a hard drive from 40 yards out, the keeper getting a hand to the ball but not being able to prevent it from crossing the line. Elliot Styles headed home from a Joey May corner on 37 minutes, his first goal since October 2013 when he scored against Bowers & Pitsea in the Essex Senior Cup. Poku netted twice more before the interval, the first being a penalty for hand ball on 38 minutes and the second when he outpaced the home defence three minutes later, rounded the keeper and stroked home. Hornchurch did not ease up in the second half and went close when Abs Thompson centred to Tobi Joseph, whose header came back off the bar. Sam Mott made an excellent save at the other end, before Calvin Poku scored his fourth of the night, taking a pass from Tom Pennells and calmly placing the ball past the goalkeeper. Paulius Ditkevicius replaced May, and Dave Collis came on for Thompson, and shortly afterwards, Sam Mott was replaced by Calvin Chafer, whose first touch of the ball was a good save from a shot from the edge of the area. Calvin Poku scored his fifth of the night when he gained possession inside the area and neatly lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net, and Tobi Joseph got onto the score sheet when he took a pass from Jed Chouman and fired home. Chafer was called into action to field a well-flighted corner, and three minutes from time Poku played the ball to Tobi Joseph who took the ball around the keeper before slotting home. Paulius Ditkevicius almost added another, but his shot went wide, as did a further attempt by Tobi Joseph, as Hornchurch earned their biggest win since they beat Leyton by a similar score in March 2008. This was Hornchurch’s best away win in senior football, their previous highest being 8-1 on three occasions, the last of which was against Polytechnic in the Amateur Cup in September 1954. Only two other players have scored five in a match - Ernie Coote (twice in 1947) and Alan Brett in 1987 - but no one has scored five in an away match before.
