Belgrade came to Biggleswade this weekend when one of the biggest fish in the computing gaming world confirmed its partnership with one of the minnows of the English football pyramid.

Serbian based company Nordeus, the creators of the football management game, Top Eleven has teamed up with Biggleswade United who play in the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League at the ninth level of the English footballing pyramid.

With 120 million players around the globe, Top Eleven is the most widely played football management game in the world.

Guillem Balague and Marko JevtićThe partnership with Top Eleven will give the club exposure to all players of the game around the world and Nordeus will also support a variety of community and charity-led initiatives undertaken by the Bedfordshire side, including working with Football Beyond Borders and the England Homeless FA.

Marko Jevtic, spokesman for the delegation that came to the club especially to confirm the deal said afterwards, “We are proud to announce this co-operation with Biggleswade United, a club that matches perfectly the ethos of our game and with who we share an identical approach in our desire to build communities as well as a passion for football.”

“We hope our relationship can go from strength to strength and that Biggleswade United can mirror the idea of our game which is about starting from the grassroots and building the club up with improvements both on and off the pitch.”

Director of football at the club, the journalist, author, and Spanish football expert from Sky Sports, Guillem Balagué echoed his sentiments and added, “Words cannot describe how proud I feel today.”

“For me, this has always been an ambition. Now with the help, support and guidance of such a massive organisation as Nordeus with whom we have so much in common, we can really look to the future and strive to do in real life what the players of Top Eleven do when playing the game.”

And to put the icing on the cake of what was a landmark day for the club, Biggleswade United came from behind to secure a place in the next round of the FA Cup following a 2-1 victory in the extra preliminary round of the competition against Desborough Town.

They will now face, Chalfont St Peter, who play one level above them in the Southern League Central Division in the next round on August 29
