Law left frustrated at Reds draw

Nicky Law, manager of Vanarama National League North club Alfreton Town, was left somewhat frustrated after seeing his side held to a 1-1 draw by Brackley Town at the Impact Arena on Saturday.

The Reds dominated the first half and could have led by far more than the one-goal advantage they took into the interval, but they could not see the job through and the visitors were allowed back into the game for a point.

"I think first half we absolutely dominated the game and had we been a little bit more clinical in our finishing the game could have been over by half-time," reflected the Reds boss.

"The second half we never found quite the same momentum. They changed it a bit and I think we got a little bit frustrated. I am desperately disappointed in how we lost the game. It is a blatant two-arm push on Sam Berry for the goal. I have just showed the referee it now and I am not quite sure what to say really because he says it is not a foul.

“We must live in two different worlds and under two different sets of rules. Unfortunately he is the one who makes the decisions and his decision there today has cost us two points.

"We should have won that game with the chances we created in the first half. The second half we very, very rarely caused them a threat if I am honest. We have won the ball back, gone forward and it came back again so it was a frustrating second half.”

Law had praise for debutant goalkeeper Matt Duke: “He looked composed all game. His handling was good, his kicking was fantastic. You have not played at the levels he has been at and not been a good goalie.

"That is nothing against Nick Draper, I think Nick has done really well as well, I just think it was important that we got a bit of experience from somewhere and obviously Matt was available so I took that opportunity.”
