Cleethorpes Town set to host Lashings XI in charity game

Cleethorpes Town will host a team of former top-flight players when they visit the Linden Homes Club next month.

The Lashings All-Stars, managed by Sky Sports pundit Luther Blissett, will take on a Town XI on Friday 11th September, 2015, kick-off 4pm.

Better known for their All-Star cricket team, who narrowly beat Cleethorpes by thirteen runs when the sides met last season, Lashings are playing a series of football fixtures against non-league opposition this year.

Their roster includes Chelsea legend Kerry Dixon, ex-Manchester United players Clayton Blackmore and Neil Webb, former Liverpool man Phil Babb and the Republic of Ireland's skipper at the 2002 World Cup, Matt Holland.

Lashings' James Honey Green said: "We're delighted to be playing a progressive club like Cleethorpes and hopefully we'll be able to entertain the locals while raising some funds for the club but this is not an exhibition match. Our footballers, like our cricketers, take the games very seriously, so this won't be a friendly."

Owls director David Mann said: "Cleethorpes Town are absolutely delighted to be entertaining the Lashings team on September 11th. The club is striving towards building its own ground at the moment and this will be a fantastic opportunity to not only raise much needed funds for this but also to showcase the club and its ambitions."

Ticket prices are as follows: Adults £4 (£5 if bought on the day) and concessions/under 16s £2.50 (£3 if bought on the day).
