Referee's Decisions

Recommended Posts

Will SSML referees being following this example  :D

A Swedish referee has started a Facebook page to explain decisions and attempt to "create an understanding for our occupation".

Would love to hear the explanation from the ref at the Stotfold v Hertford game last night!

Same goes to the ref at Woodford town v Baldock, woods player ends up in hospital after being elbowed in the face and not even a free kick given let alone a booking shown :/

What happens after the 'event' doesn't change the fact that the player that caused the injury is the only one responsible for it. If the ref sent him off would the player not have gone to hospital?

I imagine it is a similar case to the Hertford game, I bet the ref didn't cause the injury.

Couldn't agree more. The player was responsible for the injury. The Hertford guy was spinting down the wing and the Stotfold defender came across purely to take him out. Unfortunately the Hertford guy tried to nod the ball past as the Stotfold guy's head connected with his temple. No card, no free-kick. This amongst many other incidents were ignored by the ref which set the tone. Neither side were happy with his lack of officiating and the players were given carte blanche to foul at will. Many people told the ref to get a grip before someone got hurt. It wasn't a vicious or dirty game but players will always take advantage of a weak ref as we know . . .

The thought behind this is good idea in escence Karen  but the referee in question should realise that social-media can be used by many misguided people for trolling, abuse and bullying to the point of actually commiting a crime.

In my day, long long ago, a GOOD referee would always try to talk in a friendly manner to both teams and individuals AFTER the game to explain decisions and admit to any errors he may think he had made during the game.  Referee's rarely seem to go into dressing rooms BEFORE the game and explain exactly what he will expect during the match these days either.

Unfortunately, it seems, those days are long gone.  The referee and his assistants are now seen as a hate objects, rather than people to control a game and see 'fair-play'.

It's the modern world, I'm afraid.  Social media will only bring a vitriolic response.

i always talk to both teams before I referee a game whilst I get them to do their equipment check in.  I agree with BIG JR though.  Posting after match comments would only get into more debate about calls made.  Once the game is done, that's it.

I always laugh about how bad the ref is on here.  I just wish most of you went through the training to be a ref and what it takes to pull the black shirt on.  One thing we are told is not to have "rabbit ears" when the crowd or bench are yapping.

Clearly the message isn't getting through then britman.

Both the lino and the ref bottled it and gave everything to the bench/players/fans screaming the loudest on Tuesday night and last night, the lino at the WGC game was engaging with fans on the touchline questioning who he was getting his "match fee" from!

BDC.

Since I wasn't there I cannot comment on that.  But referees shouldn't pay attention to the crowd or bench unless their is personal abuse and then send the offending coach or sub to the locker room. I'm instructed to inform the coach of the home team of any offending person in the crowd and have the club remove that player from the ground, not get involved with a direct confrontation with that person.

EXACTLY, Britman.

A referee should totally ignore the so called 'spectators', UNLESS they start offering physical or giving a load of foul language and abuse to his line assistants.  If this is the case, he should pause the game and speak to senior club officials, (Secretary, if he is there), and make his views well know as to what action he will take if this action continues.

My eldest daughter is about to retire from playing girls and ladies football but will stay  as a Ladies FA coach.

I suggested she think about donning the black shirt.  Her response ?

"You must be joking Dad !  Do you think I want to put up with the abuse and grief that I see referee's getting these days ?"

Just about sums the present situation up.
